Obituary:
Mary West Chilton Times March 10, 1877
Died – At her residence in the town of Chilton, on Wednesday morning March 7th 1877, Mrs. Mary West, wife of Alva West, aged 45 years.
The deceased we believe was a native of Oneida Co., New York, and since 1863 has been a resident of Chilton. For a long periods she has suffered from a painful illness; but she bore her affliction with that fortitude which no one can realize until he or she is a true believer in Holy Writ, and as we drop tears of sympathy over these sorrowful lines announcing the record of her departure, her form, while on Earth, seems to be vividly before us, so that we can well imagine what an excellent woman she was while here below. Kindness, affection, gratitude, patience, hospitality and a general feeling for doing good were only a few traits of her character and now that she has passed to the "happy Land" while we condole, with the community, in expressing our tender regrets to the bereft relatives, at the same time we have no doubt but what is their loss is Heaven's and the beloved departed's eternal gain. "Oh! Death, where is thy sting or Grave thy victory" when a true Christian woman like Mrs. West is called home.
