She entered the c onvent in 1931 and professed her vows in 1934.     Van De Hey, Dorothy J.Dorothy J. Van De Hey, 89, Wrightstown, passed away Saturday, April 23, 20 05, at her home. She was born April 15, 1916, in Kaukauna, daughter to t he late Andrew and Anna (Simon) Otte. She graduated from Kaukauna High Sch ool, and taught ten years at St. Paul’s in Wrightstown, and was a substitu te teacher for different public and parochial schools for 14 years. Dorot hy married Merlin “Fuzz” Van De Hey in May of 1939 at St. Mary’s Cathol ic Church in Kaukauna, and together shared 44 years. They shared a fa rm in Wrightstown together. He preceded her in death on July 19, 1983.     Magdalen D. Pruess, age 85, of Hilbert, died on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at the Calumet Medical Center in Chilton. She was born November 30, 1924, in Kaukauna, daughter of the late Andrew & Anna (Simon) Otte. She graduated from Kaukauna High School where she was awarded the Lang Trophy for her high academic achievement. She then attended Lawrence University and UW-Green Bay. Magdalen married Arthur Pruess on June 14, 1944, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Kaukauna, and the couple farmed together in the St. John area until moving to Hilbert in 1959. Arthur preceded her in death on June 9, 1989. Magdalen received the designation of Certified Municipal Clerk and served as Clerk Treasurer of the Village of Hilbert for 29 years until she retired in 1991.
    She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert where she was also a member of the Christian Women, volunteered as the Parish Treasurer, served as a Eucharistic Minister, was a member of the Parish Council and taught religion classes. Magdalen also served on the St. Mary's School Board and was librarian at school. She was also an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she held local and district offices and served for 25 years on the State Publication Committee. She was a 4-H leader and worked closely with the Hilbert Area Community Theatre.

    James Otte, age 74, of Weyauwega, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, September 27, 2010. He was born on September 11, 1936 in Appleton, son of the late Richard and Margaret (Snyder) Otte. Jim graduated from Holy Cross Grade School in Kaukauna in 1951 and Kaukauna High School in 1955. He then got his degree from U.W. Oshkosh in 1959. On August 1, 1959 he married Lorelei "Lei" Kuchelmeister. Jim was an amazing high school teacher at Weyauwega-Fremont High School for 35 years. He was very active in sports coaching the football, basketball and baseball teams. He was also a Little League coach for 16 years. Jim served on the Weyauwega-Fremont School Board from 2006-2009, and also the Weyauwega City Council for a number of years. He was honored to be Rallymaster at one of Kaukauna High School's Alumni Dinner's. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Weyauwega where he served as a communion distributor and an usher. Jim and Lei were proud to be the King and Queen of Horse & Buggy Days in Weyauwega in 2004. Jim was known as the "Popcorn Ball King of the Valley"; he also was a beekeeper most of his life. He was also well known for his baking and making goodies for everyone for every occasion. Jim loved coaching his children and found great joy in watching his grandchildren participate in sports and other extracurricular activities.
    The grandkids will most remember him for his stories and songs from the past while they helped him make popcorn balls. Jim also enjoyed penny slots at the casinos and got to fulfill his dream of going to Vegas this past spring.
    Jim is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lei; sons: Mark (Sharon) Otte, Fremont; and their children Crystal, Cody and Sam; Guy (Danise) Otte, Mosinee; and their children Alex and Conner; Bill (Pam) Otte, and their children Trae, Tobin, Bekah and Sy; daughter: Lynn (Troy) Phillips, Spencer; and their children Whitley, Kenisha, Wyatt and Tynae; sister: Barbara Otte; brother Richard (Pat) Otte. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
    Jim is preceded in death by his parents, a son Gregory and a brother Sergeant Tom Otte.
    The Funeral Mass for Jim will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Weyauwega at 11 a.m. with Fr. Paul Vanden Hogan officiating.
    Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Weyauwega. Friends may call at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church (608 E. Main St.) on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

    Army Sgt. Thomas Otte, Kaukauna, was killed in action in Vietnam Sunday, his parents here have been notified. Sgt. Otte entered the Army in September of 1966 after attending Wisconsin State University – Oshkosh. He served with the 52nd Infantry Division. Tom was a 1963 graduate of Kaukauna High School.
