    Biography:
    SEBASTIAN GRIESBACH. One of the well-known and influential families of Cen ter township is that of Griesbach, worthy representatives of which m ay be found in Sebastian, John and Henry Griesbach, brothers, sons of Casp er Griesbach. Casper Griesbach was a native of Germany, and came from th at country to the United States in 1860, when twenty-three years of age. L anding at New York, he proceeded thence to Milwaukee, on to Appleton, a nd eventually to Center township, where he purchased land in the woods a nd built a .log house. He subsequently became one of the county's most pro minent farmers and large landholders, improving his land and erect- ing n ew buildings from time to time, and finally, in 1899, he retired from acti ve labor and went to live in Appleton, where he has his own house. Mr. Gri esbach married Annie Bauer, who was born in Germany and came to this count ry as a girl with her parents, and she still survives. They had a fami ly of eight children. Sebastian Griesbach was born December 31, 1868, on t he home farm, and his education was secured in the district schools. Bei ng the eldest of the family, he naturally had more of the home responsibil ity upon his shoulders when a boy, and had limited opportunity to secu re an education, but made the most of such chances as he had, and has sin ce educated himself by self teaching, much reading and keen observation.When his father retired, he bought his present place of 120 acres, a pa rt of the old homestead, and here he has successfully carried on general f arming and dairying operations to the present time.On April 18, 1899, Mr. Griesbach was married to Josephine Deimer, daught er of Joseph and Anna Deimer, of Ellington township. She was born in Apple ton, but received her schooling in Greenville township, her father havi ng moved from the city into the country, Seven children have been bo rn to Mr. and Mrs. Griesbach, namely: Annie, born December 29, 1899, who d ied in infancy; George, born November 21, 1901; Edward, born October 28, 1 903; Martha, born October 15, 1904; Claire, born April 17, 1906; Lewis Hen ry, born January 29, 1908, and Henry Lewis, born January 18, 1909. Mr. a nd Mrs. Griesbach belong to St. Edward's Catholic church, at Mackvill e. In political matters he is a democrat.John Griesbach was born April 16, 1874 on the old home place, in the sto ne house built by his father to replace the original log cabin. His educat ion was secured in the district schools of his neighborhood and the Cathol ic Sisters' school at Mackville, but when he was about fifteen years of a ge he completed his studies and took up his duties on the home farm. On Ap ril 12, 1899, he married Sophia Ellenbecker, daughter of Richard and Ann ie Ellenbecker, of Center township. After his marriage, Mr. Griesbach's fa ther moved to Appleton and sold the 200 acres to John and Henry Griesbac h, and they lived on this place one and one-half years, at the end of whi ch time John Griesbach erected a new house and barns on the land, to whi ch he moved, and where he has lived to the present time, being engag ed in general farming and also carrying on dairying. He has a family of s ix children, namely: Marie, Annie, Anthony, Robert, Hobart and Leonar d. He and Mrs. Griesbach belong to the Catholic church at Mackville, a nd in political matters he is a democrat.
    Henry Griesbach was born April 8, 1877, on his father's farm, where he n ow resides, and secured his education in the district schools and the Sist ers' school at Mackville, attending the latter until he had reached the a ge of fourteen or fifteen years. He always worked on the home place, a nd at the time of his father's retirement, he purchased his present farm w ith his brother, John. He was married October 25, 1899, to Annie Decker, d aughter of Peter and Margaret Decker, of Center township, and four childr en have been born to this union: Peter, born July 6, 1900; Joseph, born Ja nuary 19, 1903; Katherine, born December 22, 1905, and Herman, born Septem ber 21, 1907. Like the other members of this old and honored family, Mr. a nd Mrs. Griesbach are consistent members of St. Edward's Catholic church.

    Griesbach, Floyd J., AppletonAge 75, died Monday May 19, 2003, at Franciscan Care Center. Floyd was bo rn on February 28, 1928, in Outagamie County to the late George and Mart ha (Stingle) Griesbach. He married Mary Geenen on June 25, 1949, in Applet on. Floyd farmed in Hortonville and was also employed at Voith Fabric (for merly Appleton Mills) for 28 years. He enjoyed gardening, automobiles a nd making sure his family’s holidays were special. Survivors include his w ife of 53 years, Mary; his daughters, Sharon (Alvin) Rathsack, Hortonvill e, and Nancy (Larry) Strey, Hortonville; his grandchildren, Tina (Jerem y) Krueger, Brian (Sally) Rathsack, and Cory Strey; his great grandson, Ma son Krueger; his in-laws, Coletta Bauer, Appleton; Teresa Kemps, Kimberl y; Bob Geenen, Kaukauna; Donald (Carol) Geenen, Darboy; and many nieces a nd nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha on April 23, 20 03; his granddaughter, Crystal Strey; his in-laws, Roland Bauer, Marge (Lo uis) Koehler, Ronald (Bernice) Stadler, Ernest Kemps and Sally Geenen. T he Funeral Liturgy will be at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2003, at S T. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1810 North McDonald Street, Appleton, wi th Fr. Gerald Falk officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemeter y, Appleton. Friends may call directly at the church on Thursday from 9: 00 a.m. until the time of services.     Stephensville - Alvin "Tex" Griesbach, age 85, entered into eternal life on March 4, 2018. He was born July 28, 1932 to the late Edward and Viola (Beschta) Griesbach. In 1961, he was married to Charlotte Becker; they shared fifty-seven years of beloved marriage. The couple resided in Stephensville, Wisconsin for fifty-seven years, often traveling to their cabin in Minocqua. He enjoyed riding his Harley, hunting, fishing and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local #139 for thirty years, as well as a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Stephensville.
    Alvin is survived by his wife, Charlotte; daughters, Peggy (Chad) Block, Shawano; Sherrie (Tony) Verhagen, Hortonville; grandchildren: Holly (Jack) Calandros; Thomas Hofacker Jr.; Cody (Sienna) Verhagen; Kaylee Verhagen; great-grandchildren, Chloe; Jaxon; Madison; Lincoln; Leonardo; Camden; two brothers, Edward Jr. (Barbara); Lenny; three sisters, Martha (Robert) Lehrer; Marion (Bill) Howard; Lou (Richard) Gordee and sister-in-law, Donna Griesbach. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sons, Thomas and Robert and a brother Pat Griesbach.
    Funeral Mass for Alvin will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Stephensville with Fr. Richard Allen and Deacon Ken Bilgrien co-officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
    In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
    A special thanks to Heartland visiting nurses and Ellington first responders, for their care and concern of Alvin.

    Patrick Sebastian Griesbach, age 82, of Greenville, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017 at The Bridges of Appleton. Pat was born on July 18, 1934 in the Town of Ellington, to the late Edward and Viola (Beschta) Griesbach. He was united in marriage to Donna Bornemann on July 20, 1963 at St. Therese Catholic Church in Appleton. Pat graduated from Hortonville High School in 1952 and joined the U.S. Army for 2 years. After returning from the service, he attended Barber School. Pat went on to work for Wisconsin Bell and retired after 32 years of service. He loved taking care of his yard, but especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Pat was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Stephensville.
    Pat is survived by his wife of 53 years, Donna; children, Brenda (Alan) Hilgendorf and Cheryl Griesbach; grandchildren, Kyle and Alyssa Hilgendorf and Blake and Nick Lofy and siblings, Alvin (Patty) Griesbach, Marty (Bob) Lehrer, Marion (Bill) Howard, Lou (Dick) Gordee and Lenny Griesbach. Pat is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
    Pat was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Edward and Mabel Bornemann.
    The funeral for Pat will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 21, 2017 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Stephensville. Father Richard Allen and Deacon Ken Bilgrien will be officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. at Borchardt Moder Funeral Home in Hortonville and also from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church Friday. Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton.

    Hortonville - Leonard "Lenny" Robert Griesbach, age 67, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 20, 2018 at his residence in Hortonville. Lenny was born on December 31, 1950 to the late Edward and Viola (Beschta) Griesbach in Appleton. He was united in marriage to Sherry Flunker on March 16, 1974. Lenny lived and worked on the family farm in the Town of Ellington his entire life. It was a great honor for him to continue the farming tradition that his parents began. In 1991 he began working in construction and was a member of Local 139 Operating Engineers. Lenny was very proud of his kids and granddaughters and spending time with them was his greatest joy! He was an avid Packer fan, enjoyed fishing, bird watching and also proudly served his country in the US Army.
    Lenny is survived by his daughters, Karra (Scott) Schabo, Hortonville and Lori (Chad) Probst, Appleton; his sons, Travis Griesbach, Appleton and Pat (special friend Jill Sommers) Griesbach, Grand Chute; siblings, Marty (Bob) Lehrer, Neenah, Marion (Bill) Howard, Indiana, Eddie (Barb) Griesbach, Hortonville and Lou (Dick) Gordee, Hortonville; granddaughters, Taylor and Morgan Schabo and Nora, Celia and Audra Probst; sisters-in-law, Patty Griesbach, Hortonville and Donna Griesbach, Greenville. Lenny is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
    Lenny was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Alvin "Tex" and Pat Griesbach.
    A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Stephensville. Fr. Richard Allen and Deacon Ken Bilgrien will be officiating. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with full military honors.

    Eugene "Gene" Griesbach, 76, Little Chute, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at Appleton Medical Center. He was born April 5, 1931, in Mackville, WI, to the late H. Louis and Leona (Dresang) Griesbach.
    Eugene is survived by his brothers: Glen (Rosemary "Patty") Griesbach, Appleton; Dennis Griesbach, Black Creek; sisters: Joyce Hermann, Omro; Bernice Bedard, Oshkosh, WI; 22 nieces and nephews; very special friend, Jack Debluin.
    Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Nepomucene Catholic Church in Little Chute, with Father David J. Funk OFM CAP. officiating.     Joyce C. Hermann, age 79 of Omro, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2015 in Oshkosh. She was born on August 14, 1935 to the late H. Louis and Leona (Dresang) Griesbach in Appleton. She married Robert Hermann, and together they had 8 children. Joyce enjoyed camping, gardening, listening to country music and doing crossword puzzles.

    She is survived by her children; Richard (Faye Burrows) Hermann, Carl Hermann, Mike Hermann, Ronald (Diana) Hermann, Larry Hermann, Kathy Herman, Deb Dickrell and Rose Hermann, 13 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Joyce is further survived by her brothers, Glen and Dennis and sister, Bernice.
    Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert and brother, Eugene.
    A graveside service will be held at 2:00PM on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.

    Brian Sebastian Griesbach, formerly of Appleton. Brian passed away peacefu lly at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers, Florida, on February 3, 200 5, as a result of a construction accident. He was born in Appleto n, WI on February 8, 1969, the son of Glen and Rose Marie "Patty" (Sturm ). He was raised in Appleton and graduated from Appleton East High Scho ol in 1987. Brian was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwauke e, with a Bachelor's Degree in journalism.Brian worked for the St Croix Times, Virgin Islands, for 2 years and th en for the Fountain Hills Times, Arizona for 5 years as a writer/journalis t. He then returned to Wisconsin to work for his brother's construction bu siness. Most recently, Brian was residing in Port Charlotte, FL, worki ng as part of the hurricane repair efforts.
