My friends call me Margie, but Marguerite is the actual name. Supposed to come from the side of the family the Niederkorn's are on. Catherine was born in what is now France, came to Wincheringen with her family, married in Wincheringen, was widowed in Wincheringen, Rheinland, and married a man from Flaxweiler, Lux, named Johannes Neis. I couldn't find her internment record, so I suspect it's probably in Flaxweiler records. Have you run across it? Or across the Neis family. It seems our ancestors regarded the Moselle River as a highway, and moved back and forth from country to country without hesitation. I assumed when I finally found the village they were from that I was home free. But, of course, that would be too easy. I did find a great e-mail address with a tremendous amount of names and dates that you may not have run across. The man is deceased but his family is keeping the site up. The address is e-pese.de and it is from Germany. Catherine Ruppert is on it as are other Rupperts/ Ruperts. Maybe you've already used it, but it is a great source of research done by European genealogists. Catherine Ruppert Niederkorn appears to have a child that someone in France has on her charts. There is an email address for her which might still be good. The Niederkorn name is really butchered. I have another branch of my family who immigrated into Washington/Ozaukee county also. They are Sudaden Germans from Bohemia. Hoyers and Fritschs from Mequon. So it you run across them in your family I wouldn't be surprised. One of the brothers had a whole bunch of girls who married out and had a lot of children, etc. Do you need Catherine's information? Or do you have her dates, etc? Leave me know what you need or have, and maybe we can fill in some holes on the family tree charts. Are you living in the Fox Cities now? Or have you immigrated out like so many of our people? Mary Thill did find a Henry and Elisabeth Ruppert and children, but they were from Hesse and did not come until 1853, 4 years after our Henry Ruppert and family were here. The names were Johann, age 6, Heinrich, 5, Elizabeth, 6 months. Henry was 43 and Elizabeth was 24. they came to USA in 1853 from Hesse.

Henry's original land purchase was made before Ozaukee Co. w as formed from the original Washington Co.Henry's and Theodore's records were from Volume "E" of the Land Deeds reco rds books. William's purchase from Henry was from Volume"10" of the La nd Deeds records for your reference. There were no actual record #s, ju st the page number by volume.I couldn't find Henry's purchase under the "land parcel index" and th is is because the land purchase was recorded erroneously under Secti on 7. I ended up finding it (its really section 6) through the names ind ex which I didn't know existed until one of the clerks showed me. There w ere some cross references noted in the margins of the sale from Henry to son Willi am . . . I looked at one, and it seemed to be a character reference. I d on't know if these were because of the land recording error or if Theodore Reider died intestate.

See Image Death of Nicholas Ruppert, Died, at the ho me of the son, Matthew Ruppert, in the town of Dodgeville, October 20th, 1 900, Nicholas Ruppert aged 83 years, 10 months and 19 days. He was bo rn at Niederdonven, Luxembourg, December 1st, 1816, and was married to Mar garetha Ley, in 1844, and to them were born 10 children, all of whom are l iving, viz; J. Nicholas, Matthew, Peter, and Mrs. J. P. Bahl, who li ve in the town of Dodgeville, Mrs. A.G. Meyer, in the town of Clyde, Mr s. John Linden, in Mineral Point, Mrs. George Rogers, at Mount Horeb, Mr s. John Schaff, in Linden, Mrs. Jacob Bahl, in the city of Dodgeville, Jo hn Ruppert, at Parker South Dakota. He came with his family to Ameri ca in 1872 and settled on a farm in the town of Dodgeville, and his wife d ied in 1873. The surviving members of his family are the 10 childre n, 56 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The funeral took place la st Monday from the home of the son Matthew, the service being conduct ed by the fall of Reverend Father Ambauen, pastor of St. Joseph's Cathol ic Church of Dodgeville, and the remains were taken to Union Mills and bur ied in the cemetery of St. John's Catholic church.

See image William Ruppert, a pioneer resident of this county, passed away at his house four and one half miles nort heast of Belgium, on the Sauk Trail Road, on Tuesday afternoon at 4:15. M r. Ruppert had attained the age of eighty three years. Death resulted aft er a long illness. He is survived by five children as follows; Henry of Po rt Washington, Neles of Chicago, IL., Peter of Belgium, Nic. who is residi ng on a farm here, and Mrs. Peter Schimberg of Lake Church. He also leav es to mourn him one brother, Neles who lives in Milwaukee, and seven grand children. His wife, and two daughters. one son and one brother had left f or their heavenly journey before him. See Image Former resident of this City Succumbs Monday Word was received in this city Monday announcing the death of Cornelius Ruppert, a former resident of this city which occured at his home in Milwauk ee that day, following an illness due to the infirmities of old age. Mr Ruppert attained the age of 86 years. Deceased is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. The children are Mrs Anna Grosskopf and Albert Ruppert of Milwaukee and David Ruppert of Portland, Oregon. the funeral was held in Milwaukee yesterday and internment at Forest Home Cemetery. The Ruppert family left here some 30 years ago. Mr. Ruppert was born in Luxembourg, Germany, and came to America as a child. They lived first in this city (Cedarburg) and in 1887 went to Milwaukee. Mr Ruppert sailed the lakes as a marine engineer from 1867 to 1869. He was aboard the Seagull when it grounded off Fox Point and was with Capt. Fred Pabst when the latters steamer Messenger was wrecked. He retired in 1920.

Monday Jan 27, at the home, 737 35th St. dearly beloved husband of Regina Ruppert (nee Henricks), fond father of Mrs. Anna Grosskopf and Albert Ruppert of Milwaukee, David Ruppert of Portland, Ore. Further survived by son-in-law William Grosskopf, and daughters in law Victoria and Maude; 3 grandchildren also survive. Remains in state at the Independent Mortuary. Internment Forest Home Cemetery.

Good evening Jay, Went through all of the records at historic Forest Home Cemetery and am sorry to say, find that Albert Ruppert is not buried here so we have no records regarding him. There is a grave reserved for him on the Lot Cornelius & Regina are buried on but the burial never took place here. Cornelius and Regina are buried in Lot #3, Block #11, Section #46. Buried on the Lot with them are Clara Miller and Henry C. Miller (no one else). Henry C. purchased the graves on December 1, 1899 and buried Clara the day after that. He, himself, was buried on the lot on December 15, 1926. On February 24, 1927 a Mrs. Augusta Giljohann was appointed by the family by a notarized affidavit to be the Lot Representative regarding the ot her grave not reserved for anyone. She must have passed away also and on June 13, 1946 a Leonard W. Lotter was appointed also by notarized affidavit to be the Lot Representative. There is a monument on the Lot with 3 graves to the east and 3 to the west of it. The 4 burials also have footstones at each grave. In case you don't have all of the information on Cornelius & Regina, this is what we have:Cornelius was born in France on September 19, 1844 and died in Milwaukee on January 27, 1930 and was interred at historic Forest Home Cemetery on the 29th. He died of Endocarditis and was a married man a time of death residing at 737 - 35th Street. This was changed when Milwaukee renumbered all streets in the City in 1930/31. It might be the same address, and probably is, that is given for Regina for she died after the change. For her it is listed as 2143 N. 35th St.Regina was born in Germany on September 17, 1850 and died in Milwaukee on December 9, 1938 and was interred on the 11th. Her death was listed because of General Arterio Sclerosis. She was still listed as a widow at time of death so did not remarry after Cornelius passed away. Cornelius & Regina are buried to the west of the monument and Clara & Henry C. Miller are buried to the east of it.Am truly sorry that I could not be of more help to you regarding Albert. Probably his wife wanted to be buried in her families plot at another cemetery and there was room for him to be buried with her. Bob

Biography:
Information on Michael G. RUPPERT, found in: The History of Washington a nd Ozaukee Counties, 1881:M.G. RUPPERT, Port Washington; a native of Luxembourg, Germany; he was bo rn in 1848, and the following year was brought by his parents to the Unit ed States, who came direct to Wisconsin and settled twelve miles nor th of Port Washington; here he grew up and attended school; in 1860, he we nt to Kenosha Co., where he following farming one year; he then return ed to Port Washington and followed steamboating (as water boy) for one sea son. In the fall of 1862, he enlisted in Co. C., 34th W.V.I., and serv ed one year, and March 19, 1864, he was re-enlisted as a veteran in Co. A ., 38th W.V.I., and served until the close of the war; he was one of the f irst men who entered Fort Mahone at the time of its capture. Returni ng to Port Washington, he was appointed as Deputy Sheriff, which positi on he filled until the spring of 1866, at which time he resigned, we nt to Menominee, Mich., and served as porter in a boarding house about fo ur months. Again returning to Port Washington, he clerked in a store o ne year, then went to Chicago and followed auctioneering; in 1869, he w as called to Port Washington to act as Under Sheriff, in which capaci ty he served until the fall of 1872, when he was elected Sheriff and serv ed one term; he then served as Under Sheriff until the fall of 1876, aft er which he following auctioneering and collecting about one year; in t he fall of 1877, he was elected Clerk of Court, in which office he is n ow serving his second term; during the years 1871 and 1872, Mr. Ruppert al so served as Town Clerk, and in 1872, collected the first money for the Po rt Washington harbor. In the summer of 1880, he took an extensive trip am ong the Rocky Mountains for the purpose of improving his health. RUPPERT, Esq., who on account of a lung complaint had to seek the more pure air of the Western plains, has settled for some years back at Denv er, in Colorado. His many friends here will be glad to hear that he is imp roving in health. We extract the following from one of his late letters:"I am getting along quite well, I don't suffer as much with the asth ma as I did back East, although I am unable to do steady work. We had qui te a lively election in the State of Colorado; we elected a Democratic Gov ernor, an old Wisconsin boy by the name of Alva ADAMS of Pueblo Count y. We also elected 3 out of the 8 members of the lower house in our distri ct and 1out of the 2 Senators, elected the 2? county commissioners and t he democratic county Judge. In the State the democrats gained a few membe rs in the lower house, the balance of the State officers are republican s. The weather is very nice, times are very good; there is a lot of buildi ng going on in the city. Real estate is way up; the city is growing and t he country is settling up very fast, there are some very good farms in Col orado now under cultivation."Friend RUPPERT thinks that we are growing younger every day to judge fr om the picture contained in the NEWS lately, and that many old Wisconsin s ettlers who knew us here and to whom the cut was shown, had said the sam e. Living as a Catholic in Port Washington, the church would have been St. Ma ry's (which is still there). Someone transcribed both the old and newer S t. Mary's cemeteries. These are not in alpha order, but rather as the cem etery is laid out. Old St. Mary's cemetery has many stones that are unrea dable. I did not find the Ruppert names listed in either. Union Cemete ry in Port was also transcribed and there was a Henry Ruppert 1861 - 19 23 listed there.

Michael G Rupert and his wife Anna Flemming, were first buried in Calvary Cemetery, and later moved to Fairmount Cemetery.

checked with the expert and found out that Mount Cavalry was part of a cem etery that was owned by the city of Denver. The last burial was in 1909 a nd the graves were moved by 1910. Since that part of the cemetery was Cat holic, most graves were moved to Mt. Olivet. Obviously your families grav es were moved to Fairmount. There is one book at the library that talks a bout the cemetery and I think it has inscriptions from some of the early y ears. See Image John Ruppert - Reaches end of well spent k indly life. John Ruppert, who passed away on Sunday morning, March 13th, a ge 70 years, was born at Niederdonven, Luxembourg on March 19th, 185 8. At 14 years of age he came to the U.S. and settled at Dodgeville Wiscon sin, with his father Nicholas Ruppert, and family. In early manhood Mr. R uppert went to White Lake D.T. (Dakota Territory) and homesteaded. He w as married to Margaret Reckenthaler on April 17th 1884 at Plankington, D. T. After living at White Lake for nine years the family moved to the vic inity of Sioux City Iowa and later in 1900 came to Turner county. Mr. Rup pert maintained his home near Parker until nine years ago when he retir ed from farming and moved to Sioux Falls. After five years of residen cy as family moved to Parker. Is the deceased is survived by his wife a nd seven children and 13 grandchildren. The children are: Matt Ruppe rt of Bancroft South Dakota. , Mrs. Tom Cox (Maggie Ruppert), of White Ow l, South Dakota, Mrs. Lee Orris (Lilly Ruppert) of Hartford South Dakot a, the Reverend Father John Ruppert, Pingman Kwang Si, China, Miss Leona R uppert of Sioux Falls, Frank Ruppert and Miss Marie Ruppert of Parker. O ne daughter in the family died in infancy. Mr. Ruppert is also surviv ed by three brothers, Nick, Matt and Peter Ruppert of Dodgeville, Wisconsi n, and two sisters Mrs. Susan Bahl of Dodgeville and Mrs. Joe Bahl of Milw aukee. Funeral services were held at St. Christina church on Tuesday morn ing conducted by the Reverend Father Kehoe. Pallbearers were the Messr s. John Rothans, J.J. Ringley, Patrick Langdon, Thomas Keehn, John Gallagh er and John Cink. Internment was made in the St. Christina parish cemeter y. All of the children with the exception of the Reverend Father John Rup pert who is in China as a missionary were here for the funeral servic es as were also Mrs. J. E. Dear Jay, I got new information about the Ruppert family. Are you still interested to open a new chapter on our common ancestor. I suppose you have never heard about the brother of my grand father, (Mathias RUPPERT) born in Oberdonven 20th March 1867. He emigrated to France in 1889 married in 1892 a french demoiselle, Adeline CHEVALIER. Both had 10 children. The eldest of these 10 children was Corneille, Cyprien RUPPERT who married in 1892 Louise Hélène CROIX. They reared 7 children, 6 girls and 1 son. 3 girls emigrated to USA. Before leaving Europe definitely they married US citizens. Officers of the USAF and physicians. In 2008 and 2017, 2 of them died in Florida. They have numerous descendants in USA. I know the names. I visited the tombs of the RUPPERT in Deuil-la-Barre and Enghien-les-Bains (département du Val d'Oise n° 95), this year in May 2017 and had the opportunity to meet for the first time a cousin of mine Liliane CLOAREC-RUPPERT in Taverny, Val d'Oise. She is 84 still alert but suffering from invalidating rhumathism since 3 months and quite desperate. Her father was Albert RUPPERT son of Mathias RUPPERT.
Furthermore a son of Mathias RUPPERT, Alexis, Paul, Augustin RUPPERT born in 1896 became a hero of the french army during the 1st WW. He got the highest french decorations for his "bravoure au combat". These are la "Croix de Guerre" and the "Médaille militaire". He was a 1st class soldier of the 163rd french Infantry Division. This division was honored by a special monument in Vignes-sur-Meuse département de la Meuse N° 55) and battled up to the last minute in the 1st WW. He married after the 1st WW a demoiselle whose name is Henriette Jeannette EHRE probably with Luxembourg roots. Unfortunately Alexis died in 1937 a an early age.

See Image Henry Ruppert - The sudden death of Henry Ruppert, veteran fisherman, last Saturday, came as a shock to his many friends. Mr. Ruppert was in his u sual good health Saturday and in the evening was seated in the Mike Lenz b arber shop waiting for a shave when he suffered an attack of heart failu re and sank into unconscionsness and the last slumber. Mr. Ruppert was bo rn near Lake Church and was Sixty two years of age at the time of his demi se. His parents, who proceded him in death, were pioneer settlers of the t own of Belgium. Mr. Ruppert started in the fishing business when fifteen y ears of age, being for many years located at Amsterdam and employ ed by De Los Smith. Almost 20 years ago he came to this city and continu ed his association with Mr. Smith until his death. Deceased leaves two bro thers, Nicholas and Peter of Lake Church and one sister, Mrs. Peter Schimb erg of Dacada. Mr. Ruppert, through his conscientous efforts, built up a l arge patronage for the Smith fisheries. Honesty and straightforwardness ma rked his dealings with fellow men throughout life. See Image Mrs. P. Schimberg buried Wednesd ay - Lake Church, - Funeral services for Maggie Schimberg, age 71, who di ed Saturday at 6:10 a.m. at home, were held on Wednesday at Lake Church. R ev. Hausmann officiating. Mrs. Schimberg was born March 12, 1871 and was r esiding with her daughter Mrs. Henry Lauters from Holy Cross. On Februa ry 13, 1895 she was united in marriage to Peter Schimberg who still resid es at Holy Cross. Survivors are the following children; William, Milwauke e; Peter, Sheboygan; John, Fredonia; Mrs. Henry (Mary) Lauters, Port Washi ngton; Mrs John (Helen) Kieffer, Sheron, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren a nd one brother Nicholas of Cedar Grove also survive.

Obituary:
Lake Church - Nic Ruppert, 73, was found dead in a field on his farm on Sauk Trail Road, town of Belgium at 4 p.m. on Tuesday November 27. He had suffered a heart attack. The body is at Jungers Funeral home in Dacada. Arrangements for the services had not been made at press time. Surviving are his wife, the former Elizabeth Kartheiser, one daughter, Mrs. Mike (Julia) Dahm of Belgium, and one son, Norbert, in the U.S. Army.
