Obituary:
HOPKINTON, Ia. Services for John D. Smith, 94, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Luke's Church in Hopkinton. Burial will be in the Hopkinton Cemetery. Mr. Smith died Thursday evening at University Hospitals in Iowa City. He was born Aug 22, 1860 on a farm near Cascade a son of Hilarius and Catherine Sauser Smith. He was one of a family of 15 children. While still a small boy he moved with his parents to farm in the Hopkinton - Worthington vicinity. He married Lydia Grau May 1, 1888. They made their home on a farm near Earlvile, and later bought a farm near South Fork Township near Hopkinton. They retired to Hopkinton in 1915. His wife died in 1941. Surviving are two sons Harry and Andrew.
