    Obituary:
O'Connell, Sally R. Cosmetician/Volunteer, Age 92, died on Friday February 21, 2003, at St. Paul Home in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. Sally was born in Little Chute, Wisconsin, the daughter of Peter and Mary (Heesakker) Van Boxtel. For twenty-five years, until her retirement in 1978, she was employed at Jandrey's Department Store in Neenah, Wisconsin. As a well known Cosmetician and Manager of the Cosmetics Department, Sally built a reputation of fine customer service for herself and the store. During her career she won numerous awards. Among them was winning first prize (an all expense paid trip for two to the Bahamas) in a national sales contest sponsored by Dana Cosmetics. On another occasion, also winning a national contest, she won a $1,000 diamond ring for a counter top display she had arranged. Sally also visited cosmetic factories and sales offices in the United States and Europe.
In addition, she provided beauty and complexion advice on a local radio program and conducted programs on skin care and cosmetic use for groups of girls at the Y Community Center. She also served seven years as President of the Fox Valley Cosmeticians Association (1971-1978), and was an active member of the Business and Professional Women's Association.
After her retirement in 1978 she eagerly pursued Volunteer work. For many years she worked as a Volunteer at Theda Clark Hospital's gift shop. Sally was a devout member of St. Joseph's Parish in Appleton, Wisconsin. She was also a member of the Third Order of St. Francis. Sally enjoyed her family, friends, playing poker, sheepshead, bridge, going to Las Vegas, and making candy (especially fudge for family and friends).
She is survived by six of her seven children: Joan (Leroy) Thibodeau of Appleton, Jerry (Molly) O'Connell of Brookfield, Wisconsin, Patricia (O'Connell) Unger of Bethesda, MD., Mary (O'Connell) Oberlin-George of Fort Collins, CO., Judi O'Connell of Reno, NV., and June O'Connell of Arlington, VA; also thirteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Her husband, William Bryan O'Connell, preceded her in death in 1958. Also preceding her in death were one daughter Jean O'Connell, and twelve brothers and sisters.
The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 10:30AM Tuesday February 25th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 404 W. Lawrence St., with Fr. John Holly officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary Cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church from 9AM Tuesday until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for Appletree Court, c/o St. Paul Elder Services, Kaukauna, Wisconsin.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of St. Paul Home where Sally was a resident for the past four years, and especially to the staff in the Appletree Court area, who gave her such special care and love.
