    My Dutch ancestors from Noord-Brabant were original settlers in Butler, Otter Tail county, Minnesota and they built Holy Cross Catholic church there. I have the history book from that parish, written in the early 1980's. My great-grandparents are buried there.
    My grandparent's moved to Hilbert in 1949, but my great-uncle, Corneil w as already living in the area earlier....he owned a farm somewhere between Appleton and Freedom...I haven't been able to put a definite year on when he (Corneil) moved to the Fox Valley, but I found an article from the Appleton Post Cresecent that says he was involved in a car accident with his roadster in 1923 :)...
    I have the most recent history book from St. Mary's Catholic church in Hilbert, but it's really just a list of members and there's not much history included...

    Obituary:
    Cornelius H. Sweere passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on March 15, 1902 in Holland to the late Henry and Wilhelmina (Vandenheuvel) Sweere. On October 13, 1925 he was united in marriage to the former Miss Henrietta Sanderfoot in Kimberly, Wisconsin. Cornelius came here from Holland at the age of 18.
    He farmed for many years in Minnesota and Wisconsin before being employed by Consolidated Papers from which he retired in 1967. He loved roast beef with potatoes and gravy, also peaches from Mary's Place in Appleton. He was an avid card player with an incredible sense of humor. Family meant a lot to him, he had a kind, generous spirit and spent his life doing what he loved best, service to others. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.
    He is survived by four daughters: Elaine (Albert) Ebben of Mackville; Evelyn Daul of Virginia; Patricia Murphy of Hortonville; Mary Pat Schiller of Arizona; twenty-seven grandchildren; seventy-five great-grandchildren; seventy-seven great-great-grandchildren; two great great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Henrietta; his son Orville Sweere; three brothers; three sisters; son in law Karl Daul.
    Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2005, at St. Pius X Church, 500 W. Marquette St., Appleton, with Father Brian Belongia officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. at Valley Funeral Home, Thursday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and from 9 a.m. Friday, until the time of service. Interment will be held at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, on Friday afternoon. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established by the family. A special Thank You to Theda Care Hospice and all family members who contributed to his care.

    John A. Sweere Sr., 75, of 813 E. Gehl Lane, Hilbert, died Monday, Decemb er 3 at Calumet Memorial Hospital in Chilton after a brief illness.He was born July 5, 1904, at Overloon, Holland, son of Henry and Wilhelmi na Sweere. On April 7, 1926, he married the former Margaret Dykhoff at But ler, Minnesota.Mr. Sweere was employed by Consolidated paper Compnay of Appleton for 15 y ears and also farmed at Route 2, Hilbert. The couple moved to the villa ge in 1971.He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hilbert, the Men's Club, t he Catholic Knights and the Hilbert Senior Citizens Club.Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Beatrice) Berre ns of Black Creek, Mrs. Eugene (Alice) Vercauteren of Appleton, Mrs. Al an (Margaret) Krueger of Kimberly, Mrs. Mark (Anita) Ritzke, Roue 1, Hilbe rt, Mrs. Kenneth (Judy) Sommerhalder, Route 1, Menasha; six sons, Claren ce of banks, Oregon; James of Kimberly, John Jr. and Duane, both of Hilber t; three sisters, Mrs. Ann Polman of Atlanta, Georgia; Mrs. Lena Polman a nd Mrs. Mary Polman, both of Kimberly; three brothers, George of Perham, M innesota, Corneill of Appleton and George of Wadena, Minnesota; 60 grandch ildren and three great-grandchildren.

Burial was in the par ish cemetery.A memorial fund will be established in Mr. Sweere's name for the church bu ilding fund.

    Elaine A. Ebben, age 92, of Appleton, WI, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2015. Elaine was born on January 14, 1923, the loving daughter of Henrietta (Sanderfoot) and Cornelius Sweere.
    Elaine married Albert J. Ebben on September 29, 1943, at 8:00 in the morning at Immaculate Conception Mission in Vans Valley. After, there was a breakfast at her parents' house with an all day celebration with a sunset reception.
    Al and Elaine lived in West DePere for the first three years of marriage and then moved to the Fox Valley Area. They were a member of St. Edward Catholic Church, of Mackville, for 57 years. Elaine was a very proud wife, homemaker, and mother. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, as well as traveling and embroidering.
    She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Albert J. Ebben, the proud parents of Shirley (Len) Kurey, Black Creek; Rosalie (Jim) Wurl, Seymour; Theresa (Lloyd) Mastrodonato, Shawano; Ronald (Susan) Ebben, Black Creek; Gerald (Lisa) Ebben, Appleton; Marylee (Joe) Wickersheim, Appleton; 18 grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren. Three sisters: Patricia Murphy, Appleton; Evelyn Daul, Virginia; and Mary Pat Schiller, Green Bay. Elaine had many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
    Elaine was preceded in death by parents, Cornelius and Henrietta Sweere, brother, Orville H. Sweere, brother-in-law, Karl Daul, and many other relatives and friends.
    A Mass of Christian Burial for Elaine will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 25, 2015, at St. Edward Catholic Church, N2926 State Highway 47, Mackville, with Fr. Walter Stumpf officiating. A visitation will be held at the church on Friday beginning at 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00. Visitation will continue at the church Saturday beginning at 9:30 A.M. until the time of service.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to American Cancer Society , 14 Tri Park Way #2, Appleton, WI, 54914.

    Age 72, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at his home. He was born on September 27, 1928, in Butler, Minnesota, the son of the late John and Margaret (Dykhoff) Sweere. Jim served in the U.S. Navy receiving an honorable discharge. He was employed at the Kimberly Paper Mill for 46 years and also did concrete and carpentry. Jim was active in the Kimberly Community Band, a Scout Leader and was a member of White Tails and Ducks Unlimited. He was an avid Packer and Nascar fan. Jim enjoyed playing cards, golf, traveling, hunting, camping and fishing, especially sturgeon spearing. A wonderful father and grandfather, Jim's special laugh will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
    He is survived by his wife, Cecilia (VanderWielen) of Kimberly; their nine children, Linda (fiancé Bob Eger) Roovers; Donna (special friend Pete Berken) Lowe; Debra (Pat) Dolan; Michael (Mary); Sandra (Kim) Marquardt; Richard (Melanie) ; Roger; Carl (Lynette) Trisha (Richard) Welk; 20 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, his dog and constant companion, "Champ".     John J. "Jack" Sweere, 77, Hilbert, died on Friday, May 22, 2009, at Calumet Medical Center in Chilton. He was born Aug. 19, 1931, in the Town of Blufton, son of the late John and Margaret (Dykhoff) Sweere. Jack served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 until 1955. Following his discharge from the military, he married the love of his life, Romona L. Richart, on Feb. 16, 1957, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hilbert. She preceded him in death on Jan. 24, 2004.
    Jack worked over 35 years at Kimberly-Clark before retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hilbert, where he also served as Treasurer during the time that the new church was being built. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul in Hilbert. Jack truly enjoyed all Hilbert High School athletics, but was an especially huge Hilbert football fan and loved to attend the games. His family was his pride and joy. Jack appreciated the time he could spend with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    Survivors include his four sons, Mark (Nancy) Sweere, Seattle, Wash.; George (Joan) Sweere, Hilbert; Kenneth (Sharon) Sweere, Little Chute; Tony (Hillary) Sweere, Hilbert; three daughters, Peggy (Tom) Nolan, Hilbert; Jodi Sweere, Ft.     Jerome "Jerry" Henry Polman entered eternal rest May 26, 2013.
    Jerry was born in Kimberly, Wisconsin, in 1929, to John and Ann (Sweere) Polman. Jerry was a 3rd Class Petty Officer aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Lake Champlaign during the Korean War. He was an "engine man" responsible for the main engine on the ship, a trade that would serve him well throughout his life. After the war, Jerry went on to become a superintendent with Kimberly Clark Paper Mills in his home state of Wisconsin. Moving to Georgia in 1981, Jerry became involved in the homebuilding business and was a general contractor until his retirement in the late 90's. Living and boating on Lake Lanier for the past quarter century, Jerry was a champion fisherman well known for his secret recipe of herbs and spices made his fish fry a much coveted invitation. He was also an avid outdoorsman who spent many hours in the woods hunting a variety of animals. He often remarked that Mother Nature was his religion and he was a faithful steward of her trust . He always respected the beauty of the out of doors and the more extreme the conditions, the deeper his respect for his surroundings. Jerry found great pleasure in simple things, a healthy vegetable garden, a soaking rain and a ride across the lake as the sun comes up.
    He left the world with the love of many survivors who will hold his memory close. His wife, Gwen Ivy Polman. Daughters, Pam (Marty) Daly, Lily (Bob) Hahn, Jackie Rogers, Jill (John) Graffio, and Holly (Brad) Sims; and his sons, Jeff (Martha) Polman and Matthew (Kirsten) Polman; and 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Jerry will also be deeply missed by his dear friends, Kristie Myers and Kay Goodwin.
    Memorial services were held Tuesday May 28, 2013 at 5 o'clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Bobby Whitmire will officiate.
    The family will receive friends Tuesday beginning at 3 p.m.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dawson County Kiwanis Club,( c/o Regina Varnadoe, United Community Bank, P. O. Box 159, Dawsonville, GA 30534) who will be placing an outdoor memorial in his memory.

    Obituary:
    Joseph J. Polman, 78, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2013. Joe was born on March 22, 1935 to Anton and Lena (Sweere) Polman in Appleton. Joe was united in marriage to Thelma Ann Thein on June 8, 1954. He worked for Kimberly Clark for 14 years at the Lakeview paper mill in Neenah prior to pursing a career in sales. He landed his dream job at Albany International selling paper machine clothing for 25 years. Joe loved golfing, hunting and sports. Joe will be remembered for the kindness and compassion that he gave to all people he encountered throughout his life. Joe was a member of Holy Spirit Parish.
    Joe is survived by his wife of 59 years, Thelma, four children; Kim A. (Randy Kowalke) Polman of Menasha, Perri Ann (William) Larson of Lakeville, Minnesota, Joe (Valerie) Polman of Stevens Point, and Tony (Lori) Polman of Buffalo, Minnesota, grandchildren; Billi Alexandra, and Cole Larson, Annaleigh, Annika, and Arrington Polman, and Kate, Ray, and Jack Polman, other relatives and friends.
    Joe was preceded in death by his parents, and three infant siblings; Mary Ann, Betty May and Leonard.
    The funeral liturgy for Joe will be held on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 12:00 PM at HOLY SPIRIT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 600 E. Kimberly Ave. with Fr. Jim Vanden Hoogen officiating. A time of visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of the mass at the church.
