    Biography:
PETER JONEN, an enterprising and progressive agriculturist of Outagamie county, who is now engaged in cultivating a fine farm of eighty acres situated in section 35, Buchanan township, was born in this township, November 22, 1871, a son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Haupt) Jonen. Mr. Jonen's parents, who were natives of Ger:many, came to the United States in early life and were married in Buchanan township, settling on 160 acres of wooded land, where Mr. Jonen first built a log house, the logs for which he cut and hewed himself. He lived there and was engaged in clearing and developing his land until his death at the age of sixty-nine years, May 25, 1887, and his widow still survives him and makes her home there, being sixty-eight years of age. Peter Jonen was the sixth of his parents' eleven children, and he received his education in the district schools of Buchanan township. He was married September 13, 1898, to Miss Dora Van der Wyst, who was born October 13, 1877, the eleventh of a family of nineteen children born to Henry and Mary (Strick) Van der Wyst, natives of Germany who came to the United States in 1883 and settled in Outagamie county. They are now living in Kaukauna, the father having attained the age of seventy-three years and the mother being seventy. Mr. and Mrs. Jonen have had seven children: Odelia, Clara, Retta, John, Alma, Harry and Arthur, the latter of whom died at the age of two years. Mr. Jonen has forty-six acres of his land under cultivation, all fenced with barbed and woven wire, and he carries on general farming, marketing dairy products, hogs and cattle, and some hay, grain and potatoes. He milks six graded Holstein and Shorthorn cows, and keeps Poland China and Berkshire hogs. His two-story frame residence was erected in 1898, and he intends to enlarge his 36x58 barn, which he erected in 1904. He has excellent water for all purposes from drilled wells. Mr. Jonen is a democrat in his political views, but he has never aspired to public office. He and his family are consistent members of St. Mary's Catholic Church of South Kaukauna.

Dear Sir: I'm not sure if you're interested or not, but you have incorrect and incomplete information for my Great Grandmother, Odelia (Jonen) Otte, b. 1899.
She died on Sept. 13, 2003 (hard to believe, I know, but she was a tough lady and she was completely with it until the week she died. Mercifully, she was unaware of the events which happened two days before she passed.) If you want other info for some of her descendants, I can probably provide it since many of them are my aunts, uncles and cousins.

    Obituary:
Jerry N. Otte, 86, Deming, N.M. (formerly of Kaukauna) arrived to his Heavenly Home, on Sept. 13, 2013, into the waiting arms of his Beloved mom and dad and his three brothers. He was born July 20, 1927, in Kaukauna and lived most of his life in the Fox Cities area.
He is survived by his wife Lou Ann, his "love' and they enjoyed the past 35 years of marriage. Upon his retirement, Jerry and Lou Ann, lived in the Wabeno area on Robert's Lake, for several years, then moving to Deming, N.M. Jerry enjoyed people and made many friends. In fact, when you became his friend, you knew you had a good and loyal friend for life. In earlier years, before he had problems with his wrist, he was an avid golfer and bowler. He always had a positive attitude and prided himself with his many do-it-yourself projects. He was a man of many talents, yet humble enough to be a master of none.
He proudly served his country in the Wisconsin National Guard. He and his unit were called to active duty and were stationed at Ft. Lewis, Wash., during the "Cuban Missle Crisis'. He retired with over 20 years
of service, with rank of Captain and acheiving the position of Company Commander.(Co. B. 2nd Bn. 127th infantry.) Peace and Love to all who entered his wonderful life.
Preceding him home were his parents, William and Odelia (Jonen) Otte of Kaukauna. Brothers and sisters-in-law, Arthur (Dorothy) Otte, Norbert (Jean) Otte, and Donald Otte. Also Debra Allwardt, (Lou Ann's daughter) and son-in-law. Russell Schmidt (Husband to Victoria). Jerry leaves behind two families who will love and miss him dearly.
Survivors include his loving wife, Lou Ann, (Deming N.M.), a sister-in-law, Kathy Otte, as well as many nieces and nephews. From his first marriage, a son David (Mary) Otte, Sr., Kaukauna; a daughter Paula (Scott) Tyrrell, Neenah; and a son Keith (Debbie) Otte, Appleton. Grandchildren David Otte, Jr. and special friend Mary Frassetto, Sherry Otte and fiancé Kal Kavanaugh, Scott (Melissa) Offenstein, Shannon and Westly Otte. Great-grandchildren Nicholas, Kyle, Christopher, Alyssa, Caleb, Blake, Trey, Nathan, and one great-great-granddaughter, Lila Marie Otte. Also, Jerry's special four-legged friend, who will miss him dearly, Sir Issac.
His 2nd family consisted of a most loving and true pal, Victoria Schmidt, two granddaughters Jenny Schmidt with three children, Jasmine (godchild), Jade and Jacob; Jackie and Josh Jamoson with son, Treton; son, Todd and wife Lois Luedtke and three grandsons, Nate and Melissa, Brandon and Emilie and Andy Luedtke; a new born great-grandson, Rudy; grandson, Jason Allwardt and his son Daemon Allwardt; granddaughter, Leah Hanson and her husband, Brian and children, Otis, Colton and Noela Sage; brother-in-law, David (Lynn) Drawenek and family in Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Sandra (Jack) Collins and family in South Carolina; also many wonderful and good friends in Deming.
The families wish to express sincere appreciation to the many doctors and nursing staffs at New Mexico hospitals and Minbres Memorial Nursing Home for the wonderful care given to Jerry.
Jerry's final wishes were no funeral services. He wanted to be cremated, with his remains to rest in Holy Cross Cemetery in Kaukauna, at the grave site of his parents.
We will all miss you, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and great-great-grandpa.

    Arneson, Ethel Theresa (Hauser)
Ethel Arneson, age 83, of Appleton, entered eternal life peacefully Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Rennes Health Center in Appleton. Ethel was born September 7, 1924, to the late Michael and Lorretta (Jonen) Hauser. She resided in Appleton all of her life and was a graduate of Appleton High School class of 1942. On February 20, 1943, Ethel was united in marriage to Victor Arneson in Miami, Florida, sharing 59 years together before his death in 2002. Ethel was employed by Kimberly Clark at the Atlas Mill for 25 years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church of Appleton and enjoyed doing volunteer work in the community.
Ethel treasured time with her grandchildren and enjoyed stimulating the local economy through visits to the casino. Ethel single-handedly kept squirrels, carousing chipmunks and hooligan children on their toes with steady fire from her pellet gun. She could be heard for miles around "Caw, Caw, Cawing" to the crows. Ethel's pride and joy was her husband Victor and she doted on him until his final days. If you stopped at the family homestead, Ethel would mix you a cocktail, whether she liked you or not, and regale you with instructions on how to properly affix your undergarments. Through the course of her storied life, Ethel created more homespun phrases than one would hear from Norm in an episode of Cheers. "But more on that in two and two, Darlin." Holidays were always special at Ethel's house. What great fun the family would have listening to the stories and eating homemade candy. Good memories.
Ethel is survived by three children: Linda (Jim) Wagnitz, Porterfield, WI.; Mike (Katelyn) Arneson, Sturgis, SD.; Kathy (Tim) McGuire, Appleton; grandchildren: Heather (Joe) Donati, Kellie Hillers and her special friend Jason, Andrew McGuire and his special friend Jaci, Marcus McGuire and his special friend Brittany, David (Angie) Arneson, Christopher (Bobbie) Arneson, Kevin and Shena Arneson, Amanda Obermeier (Cal Xiong), and Douglas Obermeier; great-grandchildren: Savannah Donati, Logan Arneson, and Collin Xiong; a brother Larry (Lou) Hauser of Lake Placid, FL., also nieces and nephews including Ron and Harold (Nancy) Hauser.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ethel was preceded in death by a son Stephen V. Arneson, a brother Robert Hauser, a sister Lois Murphy, and a brother-in-law and sister- in-law LeRoy and Shirley Arneson.
The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 11th at St. Pius X Catholic church, 500 W. Marquette St., with Fr. Quinn Mann officiating. Friends will be received directly at the church from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service. Ethel will be laid to rest at Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
Ethel's family would like to thank the members of ThedaCare Hospice and the staff at Rennes Health Care Center for the excellent care and support over the last few months.
Even though the smile is gone the memories remain. Raise a toast to a life well-lived ...

    Obituary:
Age 72, Fremont, formerly of Kaukauna, passed away peacefully, Thursday, February 26, after a courageous struggle with Parkinson's disease, with his loving wife of 30 years at his side. Ron was born on February 21, 1943 in Kaukauna, WI to the late Arthur and LaVerne (Welhouse) Jonen. He worked with his father as a carpenter and owned and operated RJ Builders in Kaukauna until his retirement. Ron was a simple family man who dearly loved his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed nature especially fishing, gardening and bonfires. He had a creative spirit that involved putzing with just about everything, up-cycling and creating Poppy's Park in the back yard of their last home. Ron also had a generous soul and believed that everything has a purpose and also liked to dabble in the lottery.
He will be greatly missed by his loving and caring wife, Lorraine of 30 years; six children: Jina (Greg Danko) Jonen, Jeremy Jonen, Jillian (Chris) Burgess, Jessica (Josh) Grunska, Lisa (Michael) Hopwood and Nick (Margaret) Corrente; nine grandchildren: Jacob, Joshua, Courtney, Joseph, Dominic, Allison, Kennedy, Bekah and Brynn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Patty and Donna; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Abraham and Dorothy Daitch.
Per Ron's wishes, there will be a private family gathering. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Ron's name to the charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice and Mayflower Assisted Living for their care and compassion.
