How to Navigate the 1familytree web site
The following is a quick guide on how to navigate your way on our site using
- the Descendant Charts on your ancestor to view his/her descendants,
- the Pedigree Charts for your ancestors,
- the Google Maps that show event locations
Overview of the Individual Page
The central point for each person is their Individual page.
Events for the person are listed, followed by information on their parents, then information on their spouse(s) and children.
You can submit changes several ways, one is to click on the 'Edit' icon. Or you can use the submit info tab link for more general information.
You can also add or edit information by clicking on the worksheet tab to open a Family Group form to add or edit information.
How to display the Descendant Charts from the Individual Page
You can click on the Descendant tab to display a four-generation descendant text listing for the individual.
The default is 4 generations, so if you want to see more generations, you can click on the Generations Pulldown and change the number of generations you want to see. The default Descendant display is in Text format.
You can click on the Larger View tab to display the descendant chart using the larger box view.
If you want to see more than four generations, you can click on the Generations Pulldown and change the number of generations you want to see. However, you will have to scroll right in order to see the larger box view display.
You can click on the Smaller View tab to display the descendant chart using the smaller box view.
How to display the Ancestors Charts from the Individual Page
You can click on the Ancestors tab to display the individual's ancestor chart.
The default is 4 generations in Larger Box View format, so if you want to see more generations, you can click on the Generations Pulldown and change the number of generations you want to see.
Note that if you display more than four generations you will also have to scroll right to view the chart.
You can click on the right arrow of one of the right most boxes to view the previous generation of ancestor in the pedigree view.
You can click on the down arrow under the ancestor box to display information on the individual and his/her family.
Google Maps How to use the Google Map displayed on the Individual Page
You can click on the Event Number pin to open the map in a new window. If you are using FireFox, you can right click and open in a new tab rather than a new window. On the map in the separate window, you can get driving directions to or from this location.
You can click on the Google Earth icon to view using the Google Earth desktop application once you have downloaded and installed the application on your desktop.
You can use the + (plus) to zoom in on the map and the - (minus) to zoom out, or you can use the slider to control the zoom. If the Google Map server returns a message that no map is available at that zoom level, then you must zoom out in order to get the map to display.
You can also click the Hybrid button to view the map as a satellite picture with names.
You can click the pin number on the map to get the description, date, and location of the event.
