- Mr. and Mrs. Ellery Alvord, town of Ellington WI, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Thanksgiving Day (1931) at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Fred Riehl, Shiocton. Ellery Alvord and Luanna Lewis were married Nov. 28, 1871, in the town of Osborn, and spent the earlier years of their married life on a farm at Freedom. Later they lived on farms in Appleton, Black Creek and Glenbeulah. Mr. Alvord was born in the town of Homer, Cortland County, New York on Nov. 16, 1849. When he was 17 years old, his parents moved to Wisconsin by way of the Great Lakes to Green Bay then drove a team of horses to Outagamie County and located on a farm. He spent 16 winters in the woods lumbering, and also drove a stage coach from Green Bay to Marinette. Mrs. Alvord was born in the town of New Eygpt, Ocean County, New Jersey, Nov. 28, 1850. Her father, Jonathan Lewis, was a sailor on the New Jersey coast. When she was 5 years old, her parents moved to Whitewater, WI, to engage in farming. They later bought a farm in the town of Osborn, near Five Corners. Mr. Alvord is 82 years old and his wife is 81. All of their children except three were present at the celebration Thursday (Nov. 26,1931). Unable to attend were Frank, Ellery Jr. and Mrs. Frank White, Bellingham, Wash. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Burt Alvord, Appleton; Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Wickesburg and family, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Carter and family, Black Creek; Mr. and Mrs. Guy Alvord and family, Manitowoc; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Riehl and family, and Miss Lulu Alvord, Shiocton. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. M. Lewis and family, Mr. and Mrs. Walter LaMore, Neenah; Mr. and Mrs. Ed W. Bauch and son, Manitowoc, and Mr. and Mrs. John Riehl, Shiocton.
