  Find A Grave	First generation Dutch born in America - his name at birth was Arnoldus Lappens. He later dropped the "s" and added an "R" middle initial that stood for nothing. In December 1899 he married Winnie DuVall, a union that would produce seven children. Arnold worked as a carpenter for the Ogalala Sioux while residing in Naper, Nebraska later relocating to St. Charles, South Dakota. In 1936 he moved his family west eventually settling in Oregon after a year stay-over in Idaho at the home of his brother Pete. In 1937 to 1946 Arnold lived in the Hood River and Estacada areas of Oregon. In 1946 he purchased a home at 1120 Alder Drive in Salem, Oregon - its there where he passed away of a heart attack four years later.
