  The Wisconsin Policeman's Protection Association held a banquet Wednesday evening at Hotel Kaukauna in honor of former Chief of Police R. H. McCarty, present Kaukauna postmaster. Chief of Police James E. McFadden, acted as toastmaster at the affair. McCarty served Kaukauna as chief of police for twenty-four years and four months. He retired on May 15, 1936 and accepted the appointment as Kaukauna postmaster. He was the first Pres. of local twenty-three Wisconsin policeman's protection Association when it was organized here four years ago.

  Richard H. McCarty, 82, Kaukauna, died Wednesday evening at his home following an illness of several months duration. A prominent personage in Kaukauna's civic and fraternal life for many years, Mr. McCarty was also widely known throughout the state for his active participation in the Wisconsin Chiefs of Police Association, serving as its secretary for many years and as manager of the association's publication, the "Wisconsin Chiefs of Police Journal," until his retirement from the Kaukauna police force in 1936. He was appointed chief of police here in 1912.

  Alderman Richard McCARTY of this city and Miss Anna MERKLE of Appleton we re united in marriage Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock at St. Joseph's churc h, Appleton. Attending them as bridesmaid and groomsman were Miss Mayme Mc CARTY, the groom's sister and Henry MERKEL the bride's brother. The bri de was attired in a tailor-made gown and carried a prayerbook. The bridesm aid carried a shower bouquet of roses. After the ceremony a breakfast w as served to the wedding party and the happy couple departed on an early t rain for a trip to Chicago and Milwaukee; returning they will be at ho me on Division street, corner of Lawe street, after November 1. Alderman M cCARTY was born in this city and represents the Second ward on the boa rd of aldermen. He is well known and a popular and rising young man. The b ride has visited in Kaukauna and is favorably known amongst her acquaintan ces here where she will be a welcome member in social circles. McCarty, chief of police, and Miss Mary Kuehn, daught er of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kuehn were married at 6 o'clock Saturday morni ng at Kimberly, the Rev. F.X. Van Nistleroy attending. The couple was att ended by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Phillips, a sister and brother-in-law of t he bride. After the wedding breakfast at the Conway hotel, Appleton, t he couple motored to Milwaukee and Racine where they visited friends and r elatives. Sunday they will leave Chicago on the special train of the Cath olic Order of Foresters and will attend the twenty-seventh annual conventi on of that organization at Quebec.
