  Big Duke has played his final note. After discharge from the Army in 1945, Peter founded Heid Music Company. His lifelong friend and business partner, Buck Jensen, joined him a year later and they built the business until their retirement in 1982. Peter was proud of the fact that Heid Music continues to be owned and run by his children and grandchildren. His life was about music and music education. His Family Foundation has allowed hundreds of students to follow their musical dreams. Margaret, the singular love of his life, preceded him in death an untenable 14 years ago. Agnes Rossmeissl, his aunt and guardian, died in 1968. He is survived by three sons, Paul (Carol) Heid, Appleton, Wis.; Tom Heid, El Sobrante, Calif.; and Bob (Lisa) Heid, Greenville, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Kim (Rich) Mantey, Appleton, Wis.; Paige Heid (Bob Lamey), Fraser, Colo.; Todd (DeDe) Heid, Sherwood, Wis.; Madison Heid and Peter Heid, Greenville, Wis.; Ryann Heid and Mathias Heid, El Sobrante, Calif.; and four great-grandchildren,Max Mantey and Gus Mantey, Appleton, Wis.; Braelyn Heid and Gianna Heid, Sherwood, Wis. The family would like to thank the staff of The Heritage and Peabody Manor. The family would also like to thank the many past and present employees of Heid Music Company, as well as Peter's many musical colleagues in the community. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Heid Family Foundation, which supports music education in our communities, are appreciated. Visitation is at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 18, followed by a Mass of the Resurrection with Rev. David Belongea, OFM Cap. officiating.
