Family History Researcher	Possibly is the "son Essler died 1875" listed in the Holy Angels cemete ry as family lore says he is buried there. From Rootsweb; Sometime between 1814 and 1824, at Prairie du Chien, Antoi ne took up with an Indian women of the Tahko band named Waykom. They h ad a baby boy in 1824 they named Amable Asselin. His name was later anglic ized to Emery Esler. Amable was found on his dead mothers' back. Cau se of death unknown. The whereabouts of Antoine at this time is inknown. A mable was adopted by Joseph LaMure and his part Indian wife Jane (Jenni e) DeRocher and raised in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. We were told Amable was bur ied in the Church cemetery at Darboy, Wisconsin, but could find no stone f or him. There are many unmarked graves there. We did find the markers f or the LaMures and some of their children. On Jan. 12, 1845, in Grand Chute, Wisconsin, Amable married Elizabeth Diet rich.Records indicate there were 14 children, 10 still living in 1909. My greatgrandparents were Peter Esler Sr. and Elizabeth Diedrich (see atta ched photo of Peter, Elizabeth, and their children). I can't attest to t he total accuracy of the names on this photo, but my relatives remember th ese as the correct names.Your information indicates that Emery Esler (aka Amable Asselin) was marri ed to Maria Elizabeth Diedrich and had a son named Peter. Is this the Pet er Esler who was my greatgrandfather, and is it a coincidence that Peter w as also married to an Elizabeth Diedrich? In Li ttle Chute. I have no knowledge of any others. He died between 1870 and 18 75 or sometime close to that. They had 18 children according to some state ments. I think it might be closer to 14. Or maybe some were still bor n. I think he was also Metis, or 1/2 Native . His mother was native. Fath er was French. According to what I have been able to find.Thanks so much for the info. I do know at one time almost everybody in Kaukauna was related to t he Esler clan in some way. they dropped one S.To add to this Amable's father Antoine went back to Canada and remarrie d, had 8 more children, the last boy born after Amable had died!!! !! I am not even interested in looking up all those, tho I have dug into s ome of it. I sent the lamure info on to a cousin in Wisconsin. I had se nt the cemetery listings to her and she was pleased.
