  Sylvester (Sy) J. Seidl, 85, Kewaunee, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, surrounded by his family following a long illness with cancer. He was born Nov. 29, 1920, in Luxemburg, to the late Joseph and Barbara (Linzmeier) Seidl. He entered military service from 1941 to 1945. S/Sgt. Seidl served in the European campaign during World War II, receiving numerous medals, among them the Silver Star for outstanding heroism serving in Yankee Division, General Patton's 3rd Army. Sylvester was employed by the Kewaunee County Highway Department for 30 years. Sylvester married Viola Paplham on July 8, 1950, and she survives him with children, Roy (Anne) Seidl, Green Bay; Mary (Joseph) Giacalone, Fond du Lac; Brian (Kimberly) Seidl, Kewaunee; three grandsons, Benjamin (Sharon) Seidl, Clearfield, Utah; Jared (Michelle) Seidl, Madison; Matthew Seidl, Kewaunee; two great-grandsons, Bodey and Kolby Seidl, Clearfield, Utah; two brothers, Alois (Betty) Seidl, Algoma; and Charles Seidl, Kewaunee; brother-in-law, Harvey Paplham Sr., Kewaunee; sister-in-law, June Paplham, Peoria, Ariz.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Art and Sylvia Randall, Hayden, Idaho. He was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Norbert and Judy Seidl; two sisters-in-law, Mabel Seidl and Evelyn Paplham; brother-in-law, Jerry Paplham Jr.; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jerry Sr. and Etta Paplham. Sylvester was a member of V.F.W. Post 3392 of Kewaunee, Catholic Order of Foresters of Luxemburg and Holy Rosary Church, Kewaunee. Friends may call after 5 p.m. Tuesday (today) at Buchanan Funeral Home. A parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday. V.F.W. services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation continues at the funeral home on Wednesday until 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Rosary Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, with Fr. William Swichtenberg officiating. Burial with full military rites will be in Riverview Cemetery, Kewaunee. The family wishes to thank relatives, friends, neighbors, Fr. Swichtenberg, Pastor Batt, Hospice chaplain Howard, for their visits and prayers. For enabling Sy to remain home during his illness, Unity Hospice, Appleton VA Clinic, Casco Lions Organization (Hospital Equipment), also the 9th floor St. Vincent Nurses and Homestead Ridge for their compassion and care.
