  Edward "Eddie" Kuether, 90, of Appleton, died Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at Appleton Medical Center. Eddie was born February 12, 1923, in Appleton, the son of the late Edward and Bertha (Engle) Kuether. He was a graduate of Appleton High School, and served in the United States Navy during World War II. Eddie married Catherine Kemmett on July 27, 1946, in Boston, MA. She preceded him in death on March 30, 1977. He was employed first with the International Wireworks of Menasha, was owner of the former Kay's Restaurant, and spent his final years working for Lawrence University. Eddie was a true outdoorsman. For over 50 years he made many hunting and fishing trips to Lac du Flambeau at the Theiler Hunting Camp and trips to Canada. Eddie was a fantastic cook and took great pride in sharing his many recipes. Eddie was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. With his quick wit no one could tell a story like Eddie. Survivors include his daughters: Louise (Jerry) Unmuth, Appleton; Alice (Roy) Stingle, Oshkosh; and Julie (Jeff) Hoerning, Appleton; five grandchildren: Dean Krahn, Melissa (Rob) Polzin, Stacy Stingle, Sarah Locke, and Justin Stingle; two great-grandchildren, Sebastian and Skyler Polzin; four step grandchildren: Kelly Unmuth, Lisa Duffey, Natalie Heiman, and Bill Unmuth; and numerous step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine; a son, Edward F. "Buddy" Kuether; a sister, Louise Kuether; and an infant grandson, Jeffry Edward Hoerning. A funeral service for Eddie will be Thursday, September 19, 2013, 2:00 p.m., at Valley Funeral Home, with Rev. Martin Ruge officiating. Visitation will begin at noon Thursday until the hour of the service at the funeral home. Entombment with military honors will be at Star of Hope Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Eddie's honor is being established by his family. Published in Appleton Post-Crescent on September 18, 2013
