  Haferbecker, Lucille R. (nee Goodman) Lucille Ruth Haferbecker, 91, of Appleton passed away to her Heavenly home on Tuesday September 10, 2013 at Appleton Medical Center. She was born the sixth child of the late Edward and Vernie (Pendleton) Goodman on October 14, 1921. Lucille married Howard Haferbecker on September 20, 1969. Howard and Lucille were married for 36 years before he preceded her in death on November 27, 2005. Lucille studied and graduated from Saranac Lake Study and Craft Guild, Saranac Lake, New York, and the Ohio Institute for Medical Assistance, Cleveland, OH. She worked for U.S. Public Health in Missouri, and in Oklahoma; and also at Riverview Sanitarium, Kaukauna. Lucille enjoyed sewing, needle work, stamp collecting, flower gardening, She belonged to the Wisconsin Historical Society; Society of X-Ray Technicians, and Medical Assistant Society of Wisconsin. Her greatest enjoyment came from Genealogy, where she was able to find her family came to the U.S. in 1630 (ten years after the Mayflower). Her family traveled the Canadian route north of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, and settled in Calmus and Elba, WI; in 1844, according to the 1850 Census Bureau (four years before Wisconsin became a state). Lucille is survived by 22 nieces and nephews. She was further preceded in death by two brothers and a sister-in-law, Elmer (Betty) Goodman, and Robert Goodman; and five sisters and brothers-in-law, Corine (Clarence) Westfahl, Geraldine (Herbert) Reinders, Bernice (Edwin) Palmer, Dorothy (Arnold) Armstrong, and Rachel (Gordon) Kirk. Funeral service will be 4:00 PM Thursday September 12, 2013 (today) at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. Martin Ruge officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home today, beginning at 3:00PM until the hour of service. Burial will be at Oakhill Cemetery, Neenah. Published in Appleton Post-Crescent on September 12, 2013
