Van Den Berg, El la M. (Ella DeValk) "Grandma Candy"Ella Van Den Berg passed peacefully Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at Good Shep herd Nursing Home in Seymour. She was born March 16, 1906, in De Pere, dau ghter of the late Henry and Antoinette (Wagonmaker) De Valk. On June 14, 1 932, Ella married Melvin R. Van Den Berg. He preceded her in death in 197 2. Ella was a homemaker and spent many a day gardening, canning, cookin g, baking and sewing for her family and loved ones. Survivors include thr ee children: Melvin (Lou) Van Den Berg of De Pere; Robert (Bonnie) Van D en Berg of Zimmerman, Minnesota, and Patricia Schuh-Helf (David Helf) of B rillion; a brother, Egbert De Valk and three sisters: Florence Conard, Lil lian Buszkiewicz and Margaret Ryan. Ella is further survived by 18 grandch ildren: Nanette, Nadine, Noreen, Nada, Joe, Chad, Todd, Toby (Mel and Lou' s); Dawn, Wendy, Karen, Jody, Michael, Rob, Steve, Dennis (Bob and Bonnie' s) and Stacy, Kevin and Mandy (Pat Schuh-Helf and (Mike Schuh; decease d) 36 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, in 1972, an infant daugh ter in 1940, four grandchildren: Dick, Dan, Nadine and an infant girl; thr ee brothers: Antone, David, and John De Valk, and a sister, Marie Bende r. The funeral liturgy for Ella will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug ust 5, 2006, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukau na with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Interment will be in Immaculate Co nception Cemetery, Oneida. Friends may call directly at the church on Satu rday from 11 a.m. until the hour of the services.The family wises to thank Ella's caregivers at Good Shepherd Nursing Ho me for their wonderful care and kindness over the many years she resided t here.
