  John "Jol," Combined Locks, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 4, 2007, at Appleton Medical Center with his wife, Delores, at his side. He was born on November 1, 1918, in Hiles, WI, son of the late George and Nina (Hendrickson) Wald. John and Delores were married on December 12, 1944, in Wausau, WI. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II and he let everyone know he was a Democrat. He worked for C.R. Meyer and took great pride in his job with the U.S. Corp of Engineers, where he was the crane operator of the Dredge Winneconne (known to his co-workers as the Queen Mary). John's hobbies were vegetable gardening (watching those plants grow and harvesting them), deer hunting, fishing, and especially the many years he and Delores and the families spent at their place in Tomahawk, WI. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Jane (Mark) Stenz, Amy (Terry) Stingle, and Sharon (Joe) VanDomelen; nine grandchildren: John Friebel, Kristine (Tony) Knecht, Becky & Brenda Wald, Abigail Stenz, Jessica Stingle, Tiffany (Chad) Fisher, Erin & Rachel VanDomelen; eight great-grandchildren: Tabatha, Jennifer, and Ian Friebel, Tiffany and Tyler Knecht, Isaiah and Erik Hernandez, and Gwendolyn Fisher; two sisters: Shirley Votes of Hales and Eleanor Webb of Laona; sisters and brothers in law, Sophie Wald, Marian Czaplinski, Patricia Schreiber, Joan Schreiber, Tom and Marge Nienow, Ginny and Earl Lang, Doug Asmundson, and Carol and Bill Hackbarth, all of Northern Wisconsin; and numerous nieces and nephews and a dear ex-daughter-in-law, Cindy Wald. John was preceded in death by a son, John (Butch) W. Wald; his brothers, Wilbert, Marvin, and Raymond; three sister, Pearl Schneider, Dolores "Lula" Hanson, and Charlotte Mae Wald; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Don Votis, Harold Webb, Karl Schneider, Helen Wald, Mike Hanson, Harry Jr. Nienow, Chuck Czaplinski, Clarence Schreiber, Ernie Schreiber, and Darlene Asmundson. The Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2007, at BETHANY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 124 W. 10th Street, Kaukauna, with Rev. Walt Steinbach officiating. Friends will be received on Wednesday at the Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Drive, Kaukauna, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again on Thursday at Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Full military Burial Rites by Jacob Coppus Post 258 American Legion of Little Chute will follow in the Church parking lot. Entombment will take place at Appleton's Highland memorial Park. A memorial will be established in his name. The Boettcher Family Funeral Home is assisting the family. 920-766-2099. John's family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation and heartfelt thanks to the Peabody Manor staff, where he resided the past four years. They took such loving care of him. Thank you. Also, the staff on the Collaborative Care unit of AMC were so compassionate and caring his last few days of life. We will miss you!
