  Family History Researcher	From Mathias Philipps Family Mathias PHILIPPS was born 2 Oct 1841 in Geisfeld, Trier District, Rheinland-Pfalz, Prussia. He emigrated with his parents on the Ship Albana from Antwerp, Belgium to New York City, arriving 29 July 1846. The family moved to Meeme township, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin by 1848, possibly living for a short time in Milwaukee, WI. His parents were Peter PHILIPPS (8 Oct 1804 Geisfeld - 23 Aug 1868 Meeme, WI) and Gertrude KNIPPEL (1 June 1807 Gusenburg, Trier District, Rheinland, Prussia - 18 Oct 1892 Meeme, WI). They are both buried in St. Fidelis Catholic Cemetery, Meeme, WI with no headstones. Peter was the son of Nicholas Philipps and Anna KNOP of Geisfeld. Peter had at least 3 siblings: Joannes (1809), Michael (1811) and Maria (1812). On the passenger list of 1846, Peter lists "tailor" as his occupation. Adam was drafted into the 32nd Wisconsin Infantry, Co E and is buried in St. Wendell's Catholic Cemetery, Manitowoc county, WI. Mathias was drafted in 1863 but appears to have left town instead. He is in Marinette, Marinette County, WI in the 1870 census, relocating to Menominee County, MI after 1874 where he died in the woods on 27 Dec 1894. He was buried in Spalding, Menominee, MI. He married Barbara TILS in Brown county in 1869. She was born November 1, 1852 in Wisconsin to Jacob and Anna Regina Christina TILS. Barbara died March 9, 1924 in Bloomington, IL and is buried in Park Hill Cemetery there.
