  Notes	On 27 Oct 1874, Georg married Elizabeth, the daughter of Matthew and Margaret Kees, also German immigrants and Wisconsin dairy farmers. His favorite name for her was Lizbeth. These people all spoke mostly German tongue, sang German songs and heard German sermons in the Catholic church, to which they were piously devoted. Their first child, Mathias was born in November 1875; and during the thirteen following years of their marriage, a total of eight children were born to them, five of whom survived. In the early spring of 1887, Elizabeth suffered a miscarriage; and due to hemorrhages following, she passed away on 16 Mar 1887. As was the German custom, the church bell tolled, announcing the death to the countryside. Her three oldest children were in Catholic school this March morning, and being told by the sister of their mothers death, they wept pitifully. Anna Kees, a cousin of Elizabeths was there looking after the young family, keeping the house in order and she continued in that capacity for the ensuing two years. He (Georg) married her on 3 Mar 1889. Although she was twenty years younger then he, not uncommon thing in those days, she was a very capable, mature person who made Georg a fine wife, mother to his children and pioneering partner during the ensuing years.
