  Family History Document	Mary Kuesel was born in Dunn County, Wisconsin, the fifth child of Herman and Mary Kuesel. She received her schooling in the area, and being a mere eight years of age when her mother died, it is assumed she learned many housekeeping chores at an early age. Her sister, Emma recently stateed she could vividly recall her sister washing clothes with a tub sitting on two chairs; also how perfectly starched everything had to be. They worked hard and long at their various chores, and the evenings where spent on handiwork, all sitting around the dining table with one kerosene lamp. Mary left home at an early age and vent to eastern Wisconsin. She met and married Fred Krueger a widower with a small child of 3, Irene. They operated. a salon business in Wrightstovm, Wisconsin. Fred and Mary Krueger raised four daughters of their own namely: Edna (Mrs. Robert Meyer) who died of a stroke in 1974 at the age of 67; Bernice (Mrs. John Flynn), who died of multiple sclerosis in 1975, at the age of 67: Florence (Mrs. Duke Lueke), who died of a stroke in 1967 at the age of 58; and Viola (Mrs. Henry Vanniewwenhoven). Viola, the only living child of Mary Kuesel, writes of hOw hard her mother worked, and that she had to have had a lot of fortitude to have gone through so much. She writes amusingly "Our hair was put up in rags for curls on special occasions. I had the good fortune of having my hair cut, but the rest of the girls had braids and they were braided tight and made their faces looked like peeled onions. Our ears had to be scrupulously cleaned, or we got them picked out with a hair pin." Indicative of her mother's industriousness, she states that the day she (Viola) was born, the wash boiler waS put on the stove at 4:00 A.M., and six loaves of bread were mixed and raising on top of the warming oven. Viola also tells of her mother entertaining the girls and their friends, of a winter evening, with popping corn and telling ghostly stories and stories of omens, until their friends were afraid to go home. She said her mother always believed dreams had a meaning, especially bad ones, and that they warned you of coming events. Fred Krueger died of a burst gall bladder in 1926. His daughter Ireno died in 1927. When Mary Krueger passed away in 1970, she had 18 grandchildren and 72 greatgrandchildren. Viola and Henry Vanniewwenhoven are "retired" but still working. He has a saw filing business. They moved from the Green Bay area five years ago, and their present address is Route #3, Box l55A, Birnamwood, Wisconsin 54414
