  MRS. MARTHA J. ALLEN was the only daughter born to the marriage of Col. Samuel Ryan and wife. Her birth occurred November 20, 1843, at Fort Howard, Wisconsin, and until her marriage resided with her parents in Appleton and Menasha. In 1868 she became the wife of John S. Robinson, who died in 1872, and ten years later she married Asa Allen, and he died that year in Dakota where they had made their home. Mrs. Allen shortly afterwards returned to Appleton and has since been a resident of this city. She has one son, Louis J. Robinson, cashier of the city postoffice in Washington, D. C. Samuel J. Ryan, son of James Ryan, was born 1859, and educated at Lawrence college. He established the daily Crescent in October, 1890, and has managed the same ever since it was started. He was married in October, 1909, to Alice C. Doland, of Rogers Park, Illinois. Mr. Ryan has served as clerk of All Saints parish, Protestant Episcopal Church, for several years.
