Catherine Ann Corry Wyngaard, born October 12, 1914, formerly of Madison, passed away January 19, 2003 in Texarkana, Texas. Catherine was the tenth and last surviving of the fourteen children of Dr. Francis Corry and Hannah FitzGerald Corry of Menasha, Wisconsin. Even in her youth Catherine demonstrated the high spirits and exuberance that continued to be the hallmarks of her 88 years of life. As a teenager, unbeknownst to her parents, Catherine and a friend "borrowed" a crop dusting airplane and buzzed the family home. In 1930 as a drum majorette, Catherine led the Menasha High School Band to the national championship competition in Tulsa, Oklahoma where, on behalf of her band, she accepted the first place trophy presented by competition judge and bandmaster John Philip Sousa. She attended Oshkosh State Teachers College before marrying John W. Wyngaard in 1934. They settled in Madison, where they devotedly raised and educated their five children. For over forty years Catherine was well known to Wisconsin politicians as John's very able assistant in running the Madison News Bureau of the Appleton Post-Crescent and Green Bay Press-Gazette. Catherine was a kind and extremely generous person, with a wonderful sense of humor and a frequent twinkle in her eye. She will be remembered for her quick wit, her lifelong youthful attitude, her many years of volunteer work at University of Wisconsin Hospital, the pride she took in her family, her fabulous fashion flare, and her great legs. In July, 2000 Catherine's descendants including four surviving children and spouses, 20 surviving grandchildren and spouses and eight great-grandchildren gathered in Madison to pay tribute to her with a three-day celebration. Between that reunion and the time of her death Catherine was blessed with an additional five great-grandchildren. Husband John W. Wyngaard, son, Tim Wyngaard, adored granddaughter Elizabeth (Betsy) Wyngaard and dear friend and compassion Maurice Pasch predeceased her. She is survived by her children: Michael (Nancy) Wyngaard, Esq., Dr. John (Sandra) Wyngaard, Judy (George) Oosterhous and Susan Wyngaard (Dr. Jane Snyder) grandchildren: Jane Wyngaard (Tom) Inness, Catherine Corry Wyngaard (Derrick) Niccum, Molly Wyngaard, John J. Wyngaard, Michael Corry (Lisa) Wyngaard, Dr. Amy Wyngaard (Joseph Doyle), Peter (Meg) Wyngaard, George Corry (Kelly) Oosterhous, Captain Dan (Allison) Oosterhous, Julie (Jim) Chadwell, Tim (Kara) Oosterhous great-grandchildren: Alex, Meghan, Emma Catherine, Anna Claire, Andrew, Graeson, Jack, Brighid Catherine, Shay, Grace, Eric, Elise, Michael, Logan, Kegan, Aidan, Clark and Benjamin. Burial will be private. A memorial service will be held in Madison in March close to St. Patrick's Day, with exact date to be announced later. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elizabeth E.
