  Funeral services for Thomas Lee Kappell, 29, of 231 Jefferson Street, were at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. Mike Hoffmann officiating. Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Kappell, a partner in the Abitz Water Service, Route 6, Appleton, died on Tuesday, October 21, when the sides of the excavation in which he was working on the Dean Van Vreede farm, Highway 55, Kaukauna, collapsed. Pallbearers were William Britten, Ted Schmitt, Jim Kappell, Marty Van Deraa, Marty Diedrich and Randy Ernst. The Greenwood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Kaukauna Times (Kaukauna, Wisconsin), Tuesday, 28 Oct 1980, pg. 1. Thomas was the son of Lawrence and Valita Guyette Kappell. He was married to Karen Heaney.
