  Melrose Pioneer Dead In the death of Arnold Jurgens in Big Stone City at 5:00 o'clock yesterday morning, February 28th, passed one of the early day settlers in Grant county, the deceased having filed on a homestead in Melrose township in the fall of 1878. The following spring he took up residence upon the same and from then until his death made Grant county his home continuously, but moved from the farm to Big Stone City a good many years ago. Some months ago Mr. Jurgens suffered a paraletic stroke, which doubtless left him in a somewhat weakened condition, and his death resulted after a brief illness with grip and complications. Deceased was the father of our townsman George Henry Jurgens, as well as a number of other sons and daughters in this county. A complete obituary will be published in our next issue.
