Adrian Edgar Mader passed away due to congestive heart failure on July 26, 2008, with his loving wife, Audrey, by his side. He was 86 years old. Adrian was born to the late George and Olive Mader on Jan. 11, 1922, in the town of Woodville in Calumet County. He was in the U.S. Army Airforce from 1943 to 1946 during World War II and served in Guam. On May 25, 1948, he married the late Lucille "Ceil" (Halbach). Together they raised ten wonderful children in Sherwood, Wis., where he belonged to Sacred Heart Parish all his life. After Ceil passed away in 1989 after 41 and a half loving years of marriage, Adrian married Audrey (Carter-Dietzen) on Feb. 2, 1991, and with her enjoyed 17 and a half wonderful years of marriage. Their blended family now has 16 children. Adrian worked for 33 years as a glazier at Hoffer Glass Company in Appleton, Wis. He was a Charter member of the Sherwood Lions Club since 1968, was one of its past presidents from 1975 to 1976 and served on the Board of Directors for four years. He was also a member of the American Legion since 1946 until his death, and was Commander of the Thomas E. Kees Post in 1953 and 1954. Adrian's faith was a most important part of his life. During his life as a member of Sacred Heart Parish, he was a trustee, head of the ushers, and president of the Holy Name Society. He also donated much time to the parish by completing many carpentry projects needed by the church. Among his favorite hobbies were woodworking, glass work, bowling and golf. He is survived by his wife, Audrey and his ten children, Lois (Jerry) Loos, Hortonville; Al (Paula) Mader, Menasha; Marlene (Mark) Burton, Green Bay; Steve (Mary) Mader, Ripon; Gary (Diane) Mader, Hilbert; Rick (Linda) Mader, New London; Dale Mader, Missouri; Dennis (Gina) Mader, Menasha; Gerard Mader (special friend, Dawn), Appleton; Janice (Craig) Knutson, Abrams. His surviving stepchildren are, Fran (Diane) Dietzen, Hilbert; Kay Dietzen (special friend, Richard), Appleton; Roy (Geralyn) Dietzen, Forest Junction; Gary ( Leann) Dietzen, Texas; Mary Dietzen, Menasha; Bruce (Desiree) Dietzen, Washington. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sisters, Ethel Kruse, Kaukauna; Lori (Len) Schmidt, Brillion; Deanna (Max) Wolf, Neenah; Noretta (Ronald) Bastien, Reedsville; his brother, George (Ellie) Mader, Chilton; and sister-in-law, Violet Mader, Scandinavia. In addition, he is survived by special family friends, Judy Amedee, Abrams; Lana Champeau, Menasha; and Chris Mader, Appleton. Adrian was preceded in death by his loving first wife, Ceil; son, Thomas; granddaughter, Tina; his parents, George and Olive Mader; brothers, Jerry and Robert Mader; sisters, Jeannie Schmidt and Marion Beach. We, Adrian's family, would like to extend our gratitude to the staff at Calumet County Hospice, especially to Sandy, Holly, Margot, and his wonderful nurse, Chris. Your dedication and kindness to Dad during his illness was a gift from God. You have our heartfelt thanks. We would also like to thank Ken and Betty Kress and the staff at Kaukauna Family Restaurant for your thoughtfulness and caring ways toward Dad and Audrey during these past three months. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Adrian's name for the building fund debt at Sacred Heart Parish, Sherwood. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sherwood with Fr. Philip Dinh-Van-Thiep and Fr. Ken Frozena co-officiating. Friends may call at the Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2008, and again on Wednesday, directly at church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial in the Parish Cemetery will take place immediately following services with complete military rites conducted by the Thomas E. Kees Post 496 of the American Legion. The family would like to express sincere thanks to Fr. Ken and Fr. Philip for their kindness, understanding, thoughtfulness and friendship throughout Adrian's life and illness.
