Jacobson, Earl H. "Bud", age 86, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 15, 2008, surrounded by family following a courageous struggle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Earl was born on February 16, 1922, in Winneconne, Wisconsin, to the late William and Jennie (Smillie) Jacobson. On September 16, 1950, Earl married Marilyn Pingel at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton, Wisconsin. He was a 1939 graduate of Winneconne High School and served in the army from September 1942 until January 1946. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Okinawa and the Philippines. Earl retired from Courtney & Plummer Incorporated/4-X Corporation in 1986, after 40-plus years of service. Earl's greatest joy in life was being a proud grandpa and the #1 fan of his grandchildren at their numerous sporting events and activities. No matter what the weather nor what the distance, he was always on the sidelines cheering them on. They could always count on his support and appreciated his advice. He was a charter member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, where he remained active in numerous roles until his death. Earl played an integral part in the formation and management of the Fox Cities Retirement Village, where he and Marilyn have resided for the past four years. He was blessed with many friends, with whom he enjoyed traveling, camping, snowmobiling, dancing, playing cards and socializing. Earl and Marilyn especially enjoyed monthly breakfasts with lifelong friends and Sunday breakfasts with church friends. Countless hours were spent volunteering for Theda Clark Hospital Auxiliary, Red Cross blood drives and Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed working and visiting at the voting polls. He was a member of the Neenah-Menasha Retired Men's Club. Earl is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his daughters: Karla (Marc) Koslowski and Diane (David) Wilfling, all of Neenah; his grandchildren: Matthew and Jennifer Koslowski; Dustin and Devon Wilfling. He is also survived by a brother. Robert (Isabel) Jacobson, Oshkosh; sister-in-law Carlyn Pingel, Appleton; and numerous nieces and nephews; and a cousin, Dale (Patricia) Martin, Georgia, who was raised as a brother. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lucile Johnson; his father- and mother-in-law, Lester and Gladys Pingel; and his brother-in-law, Earl Pingel. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 140 S. Green Bay Road, Neenah, with Pastor Stephen Dietzler officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at the Westgor Funeral Home, 205 W. Doty Avenue, Neenah, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again on Wednesday at church from 9 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name. His Christian faith was a very important part of his life. It helped sustain us all through this difficult struggle.
