  Leo J. Van De Loo, Kaukauna, age 83, passed away at his home on Friday, March 5, 2010. He was born March 7, 1926, to the late John and Ella (Danen) Van De Loo in Kaukauna. Leo graduated from high school at the Salvatorian Seminary at St. Nazianz. During World War II, Leo served in the Merchant Marines in the North Atlantic and then in the Navy in the South Pacific. He returned home and completed his schooling, graduating from St. Norbert College in 1951. Leo married the love of his life, Helen Van Epern on March 31, 1951, and they were blessed with 6 children. During his life, Leo worked for Giddings and Lewis Machine Tool Company in both Kaukauna and Fond du Lac, where he served in management until his retirement in March of 1986. He was also a Charter Member of the former St. Aloysius Parish in Kaukauna as well as the first Trustee and first Treasurer. Leo's faith life was very important to him and he put his faith in action as a CCD Teacher at the former St. Mary's Parish, worked Core Weekends and was active in Cursillo. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus #1033 for over 60 years and served as their financial secretary for over 20 years. Leo loved sports and having fun. He was known for being a trickster and relished making people happy through his jokes. His kind heart had him visiting shut-ins and supporting them whenever possible. He especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Leo is survived by his children: Carol (Allan) Crevier, Merrill; Donna (Alan) Borchardt, Kaukauna; Kathy (Jim) Litscher, Eau Claire; Peggy (Dale) Von Behren, Appleton; John (Tammy) Van De Loo, Lake Tomahawk; and Mary (Matt Turner) Van De Loo, Appleton; grandchildren: Melissa (Eric) Meyer, Allison (Tim) Paul, Abigail Crevier, Aaron, Andy, and Amy Borchardt, Tim, Tyler, Traci, and Tom Litscher, Jenna, Nathan, and Hannah Von Behren, Taylor and Leah Van De Loo, Daria and Kaden Turner Van De Loo; great-grandchildren: McKenna, Mason and Mya Meyer and Aiden Litscher. He is also survived by his sisters: Rose Landgraf, Madison; Ruth Coenen, Kaukauna; in-laws: Marion (Jim) Kobussen, Kaukauna; Roy (Sally) Van Epern, Iola; Karen (Rick) Ramstack, Nekoosa; Helen Van Epern, Kaukauna; Dolores Van Epern, Kaukauna; Roger Wolf, Green Bay; Mary Beth Van De Loo, Oshkosh; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen, siblings: Anna Marie (Bob) Klister, Mary Joan (Cornelius) Hatchell, and Jim Van De Loo; in-laws: Bill and Fay Van Epern, Ray, Don, Dick, and Carl Van Epern, and Mary Lou Wolf. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12 NOON on Monday, March 8, 2010, at St. Katharine Drexel Parish at St. Aloysius Site, 2401 Main Avenue, Kaukauna, with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Friends may call on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a parish prayer service at 7:00 p.m. concluding the evening. Friends may call again directly at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Leo's name is being established. (920-766-2099)
