Elizabeth "Beth" A. Lauer, age 81, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Oakridge Gardens Nursing Center in Menasha. On June 25, 1931, Elizabeth Ann was born in Amherst, the daughter of the late Lloyd and Dorothy (Hopkins) Gibbons. She was united in marriage to Leon C. Lauer on April 20, 2002 at St. Bernard's Parish in Appleton. Beth was a waitress for many years and had worked for Schreiner's Dinner in Appleton for over 15 years. Everyone wanted to have Beth as their waitress, her section was always full. She loved to dance and travel. Beth was a very caring and sensitive person and wanted to spend as much time as possible with her family. Beth will be missed by her loving husband, Leon, her children: Mary (Joseph) Collar, James (Carol) Van Heertum, Pat (Jeff) Plamann, Joe (Theresa) Van Heertum; her grandchildren: Aaron (Amy) Collar, Mandi (Michael) Tedeschi, Sarah (Michael) Classen, Lori (Tim Gettle) Van Heertum, Steven (Meghan) Van Heertum, Rebecca (James) Van Den Eng, Angela (Troy Engel) Bevers, great-grandchildren: Sam, Tony, Lucas, Andrew, Emily, Zoe, Isaac, Jacob, Trevor, Haylee; her brother, John "Jack" (Beth) Gibbons; a sister, Nancy (Bruce) Hillegas; 12 step-children; 30 step-grandchildren; 22 step-great-grandchildren; and many other extended family members and friends. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Doris Jean and her husband, Gordon Jacklin; and a brother-in-law, Harlan Steffens. The Funeral Service for Beth will be held at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Martens-Laemmrich Funeral Home, 312 Milwaukee Street, Menasha. Visitation will be held from 3:30 pm until the hour of the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established for Alzheimer's Research. Sign the guest book and light a candle in memory of Beth at our website. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff of Oakridge Gardens for the wonderful care given to Beth during her stay.
