  Early in her career as a schoolteacher at Summit School in Humboldt, Wisconsin, Mary Agnes met her husband, Elmer Bins. She taught all grades in this small rural one room schoolhouse. At the time, a schoolteacher only needed a two-year teaching certificate, however, Agnes was determined to receive her full college degree. Agnes, now a mother of three, went back to school during summers and attended night classes. Shuffling her time between teaching, attending school, being a mother and wife, she succeeded in her efforts and received her full degree. She then taught and was the Principal at Wequiock Elementary School in Bay Settlement. Her granddaughter Cindy recalls receiving "no favors" from her grandmother who was her third grade teacher. Granddaughters Julie and Lori also had experience in Agnes' classroom, not as students but went to Agnes' classroom after their classes ended and remained there until school was out. Upon retiring after 33 years of teaching, Agnes worked the Bins' farm, perservered the loss of her husband, Elmer in 1968 and in 1969 her daughter Anna Mae, husband Gordy and eight grandchildren moved 2000 miles away to Eugene, Oregon. Agnes took many opportunities to visit her missed daughter Anna Mae, and family in Eugene. Later in life Agnes was afflicted by diabetes and lost her leg to it. However, she never lost her sense of humor, making fun of her wooden leg and never lost her strong faith in God. Toward the end she prayed for strength and asked the Lord to take her when her whole family was together in Green Bay. Affectionately referred to as "Ma", her family recalls that "Ma was always approachable and someone who you could discuss your problems and feelings with and always come away with a feeling of ease and love." Agnes passed away March 9, 1981 at the age of 76.
