Ed and Donna us ed to live on South Oneida St., in Appleton, renting from the esta te of my Aunt Evelyn Rickert Stadler. My parents lived across the stree t, so we saw Ed and Donna on many occasions. My mom used to babysit for B rad and Doug, their 2 oldest. Many, many years ago the John Rickert Fami ly celebrated a Centennial. I do not have a copy, but recall it was ve ry detailed, with many old pictures. It was an excellent history of the f amily and the area. I suggest you contact Ed or Donna to see if he h as a copy. I did not attend, but I believe they may have. If not, I am s ure Richard and Dorothy Rickert would have one, as he purchased the old Ri ckert homestead. Hope this helps. As far as Uncle Ted and Aunt Mary Vandenberg, we had good times at the ir home. Uncle Ted played the organ and sang the song, "If I Had But 50 C ents." They always had a dog, and each dog was named "Buster."A copy of that song is attached, and every time I read the words, I laug h, recalling him singing it and playing the organ. Aunt Mary had me ov er at the farm many times, and the upstairs bedrooms were cold. Bill Mys ---I took my girl to a fancy ballIt was a social hop,We danced away the eveni ng till the music it did stop.Then to a restaurant we went,the best o ne we could get,She said she wasn't hungry,but this is what she ate.A dozen raw, a plate of slaw,a chicken and a roast.Some applesass, asparag rass, And soft shell crabs on toast.A big box stew, and crackers too,her a ppetite was immense!When she called for pie, I thought I'd die,For I had b ut fifty cents.She said she wasn't hungryand didn't care to eat,But I've got mon ey in my clothes,to bet she can't be beat.She took it in so cozy,She h ad an awful tank,She said she wasn't thirsty, But this is what she drank.A whiskey skin, a glass of gin,Which made me shake with fear,A ginger po p, with rum on top,A schooner then of beer.A glass of ale, a gin cocktail, She should have had more sense!When she called for more,I fell on the floo r,For I had but fifty cents.Of course I wasn't hungry,And didn't care to eat.Expecting every moment To be kicked into the street.She said she'd fetch her family round,and so me night we'd have fun,When I gave the man my fifty cents,This is wh at he done.He tore my clothes, he smashed my nose,He hit me in the jaw. He gave me a prize of two black eyes,And with me he swept the floor.He gra bbed me where my pants hung loose,And threw me o'er the fence.Take my advi ce, don't try it twice,If you've got but fifty cents.
