  Biography	Effiel L. Nye was born in October 1862 in Hortonville, Outagamie, Wisconsin. She was the 2nd of at least four children of George and Eliza Nye of that area. Her parents were early settlers to that region, and her father a farmer. The 1870 Census finds her living with her family but in 1880 she is living as a boarder and student with the McMurdo family in that same town. By that point her birth family appears to have disappeared from the record, so it is guessed that her parents were deceased and she left to be cared for by that family. In 1883 she married I.D. Steffen and soon after moved to Antigo with him. Her husband's sister Mary (Steffen) Olk and brother-in-law John Olk moved there from Hortonville about the same time. Effie's husband I.D. was a very prominent physician, helping start two hospitals, as well as three-time mayor of Antigo, alderman, member of the local banks' board of directors, and more. Together they had five children (oldest to youngest): Bernice, Lyman, Glyndon, Margaret, Richard. Effie (Nye) Steffen died in July 1922. Her husband followed soon after that November. They are buried together in the Steffen family site in Antigo Cemetery, with all 5 of their children plus one grandson and one son-in-law.
