  Ruth F. Hurley, age 91, passed away on Monday, February 4, 2013, surrounded by her loving family at Cherry Meadows, Appleton. She was born on April 20, 1921, in Kaukauna, the daughter of the late Eric and Theresa (Deoneseus) Filen. Ruth graduated from Appleton High School and continued her education at Chicago Nursing School. On October 5, 1945 she married Ralph Hurley at St. Therese Catholic Church. Their marriage was blessed with eight children. Ruth was a proud mother and after raising her children she worked for the Outagamie Sheriff's Department as the head matron and cook. She worked there for over 15 years retiring in 1984. She was a lifelong member at St. Therese. Ruth was a people person and enjoyed meeting new people. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, playing cards with the girls, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Ruth is survived by her loving husband, Ralph of 67 years, eight children: Lee (Mary) Hurley, Colleen (David) Frank, Peggy (Fred) Cazzola, Tim (Trish) Hurley, Terri (John) Schoettler, Dianne (Steve) Seidl, Scott Hurley, and Kim (Dan) Kappell; 21 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law: Sally Krueger and Jo Zehren, one brother-in-law, Dave (Marlese) Lindsay, loving neighbor and friend, Donna Westgor. Ruth is further survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was preceded in death by one brother, Howard (Margaret) Filen, parents-in-law, Margie and Ed Hurley, and several brothers and sisters-in-law. Funeral liturgy will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 8, 2013, at ST. THERESE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 213 East Wisconsin Avenue, with Father William Hoffman officiating. Friends and family may visit at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Private family interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton. In Lieu of flowers a memorial is being established. Special thank you to the wonderful nurses and staff at Cherry Meadows. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
