  Donald J. Kossman, age 89, of Chilton, passed away quietly on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the Chilton Care Center in Chilton. He was born June 28, 1925 in Brant, WI, son of the late Oscar F. & Myrtle (Davis) Kossman. Donald grew up on the family farm and enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean War. During his time in the service, he was stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and served on an air craft carrier in the North Atlantic. Following his discharge, he returned to Wisconsin and began working for Marathon Paper Company. He married Mabel V. Wilson on July 25, 1951 at Quonset Point, RI. Donald began his law enforcement career in 1957 as a County Traffic Officer. He transitioned through the rank and became Calumet County's first full time investigator before retiring in 1991. He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, the VFW and Chilton American Legion Posts, and the Wisconsin Professional Police Association. Donnie was an avid Packer fan, and looked forward to going Polka dancing with Mabel. In his free time, he did a little fishing, tended to a garden, bowled, enjoyed helping on the farm, and tinkering in his garage on cars or whatever other projects he could get his hands on. Above all else, Donald treasured his family and did everything he could to enhance their lives, even working 3 jobs to support all of their needs. Survivors include his children: Stephen (Tracy) Kossman of Chilton, Sondra (Steve) Enstrom of Madison, Stanley (Candy) Kossman of Aurora, CO, Sally Zuelke of Chilton and special friend, Mike Daniel, Scott Kossman of Chilton, Sara (Jeffrey) Aplin of Wrightstown; 10 grandchildren: Ben Enstrom, Eric (Tabatha) Kossman, Abby (Adam) Lawrence, Jennifer (Joshua) Corbin, Adam (Amber) Zuelke, Joshua Brandenburg, Danielle Kossman, Dustin Kossman, Seth Aplin, Alyssa Aplin; a grandchild of the heart: Heather Nett; great grandchildren: Dominic, Micayla Kossman, Lily Lawrence; and a sister: Kay (Jim) Hertel. He is further survived by nieces, nephews other relatives! and friends. Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Mabel; a son-in-law: Larry Zuelke; and siblings: Earl (Mae) Kossman, Lyle (Beverly) Kossman, Muriel (Mark) Peil. Funeral services will be at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 am until 11:45 am on Saturday, December 27, 2014.
