  Matthew Achter, 84, a retired town of Brothertown farmer died late Tuesday night at St. Nicholas Hospital following a short illness. He had been a resident of the Park Lawn Home for the Aged for the past five years. A native of Fond du Lac County, he was born July 7, 1871, at Marytown, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Achter. His marriage to Mary Grewe was solemnized at Holy Trinity Church at Jericho on September 30, 1901. Mr. Achter operated a farm north of Jericho for more than 50 years. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Jericho and the Holy Name Society of the parish. His wife preceded him in death on November 13, 1947. Survivors are three sons, John of Crivitz, Wis.; Joseph of Appleton; and Leo on the homestead farm; a daughter Mrs. Lando Anhalt, Appleton; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Charles of Milwaukee. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Chilton, and at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church in Jericho. The Rev. William Hamauer, pastor, will be the celebrant of the requiem high mass. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
