  Smith, Donald J.Donald J. Smith, 83, of Hendersonville, NC, died Saturday, April 15, 200 6, at Four Seasons Hospice Elizabeth House. Born in Green Bay, Wisconsi n, he was a son of the late Wright and Mathilda Smith. Before moving to He ndersonville 14 years ago, his previous residences included Appleton, Wisc onsin; Salt Lake City; Utah, Denver, Colorado; Oak Park, Michigan; and Roc hester, Michigan. During World War II, he served as a weather observ er in the U.S. Army Air Force. He received his Bachelor of Science degr ee from Lawrence University in 1949. He worked for Wallace Silversmiths fr om 1949 until 1962 and Lunt Silversmiths from 1962 until 1991.He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where he was inv olved in the Lector Ministry. He also belonged to the Beta Theta Pi Frater nity, Elks Club, and Welcome Wagon Senior Club.Surviving is his wife, Elaine Smith; daughter, Lynn Jackson of Williamsbur g, Virginia; son, Stephen Smith of Nashville, Tennessee; brother, James Sm ith of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; grandchildren: David Smith, Ryan Smith, Bryce J ackson, Trevor Jackson and Kelsey Jackson.In addition to his parents, a son Gary Smith preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held at a later date.In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Four Seasons Hospice and Pall iative Care, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731; or to Immaculate C onception Catholic Church, 298 7th Ave. West, Hendersonville, NC 28791.Thos.
