  LaVerne Zyduck, 85, a longtime Fond du Lac resident, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, after a long illness. LaVerne was born Feb. 6, 1924, in Antigo, the daughter of Benjamin and Theresa Nieuwenhuis. In 1942, she graduated from Appleton High School, and during World War II, she worked for the Allied war effort at Allis-Chalmers in Milwaukee. On June 10, 1946, she married Alvin A. Zyduck of Wausau. He was a longtime employee of the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad. After the family moved to Fond du Lac in 1959, LaVerne volunteered at St. Louis Catholic Church and school. She also worked for many years at the JC Penney store in Fond du Lac. LaVerne and Al were longtime members of Lodge 57 of the Elks Club in Fond du Lac. LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband in 1971; one grandson, Aaron Noe; two brothers, Leonard and Bernard Nieuwenhuis; and one sister, Yvonne Coushman. She is survived by three daughters, Barbara L. Zyduck of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Betty A. Noe (Don) of Miami, Fla., and Ellen Kay Beck (Tobin) of Seward, Neb.; and three grandsons, Matthew Noe, 25, Alan Noe, 22, and Jonathan Beck, 17. She also is survived by three brothers, Thomas, Robert and Richard Nieuwenhuis; and four sisters, Elaine Knapp, Germaine Gebhardt, Sister Mary Berna OSF (Marian) and Dorothy Bodmer. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division St., Fond du Lac. Following burial at Calvary Cemetery, a luncheon will be held for family and friends at the Elks Club in Fond du Lac.
