  Harry G. Martin, age 89, of Chilton, was welcomed into the arms of the Lord following a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, August 10, 2013 with his loving family at his side. He was born, the only son, of Harry Martin, Sr. and Tina (Boll) Martin of New Holstein. He had 2 sisters: Alice Richter and Grace Sukowity. He graduated from New Holstein High School in 1941 and enlisted in the United States Navy and began his service in 1941. He served on the USS Force (AM,99) Submarine and on the USS, LST 309. As a WWII Veteran, he earned many ribbons of honor. After his service, he worked at Schilling Hardware Store in New Holstein for a short time, and then began his life long career at Wisconsin Public Service; first as a lineman, and eventually a line foreman. He married Lucille M. Moehn of Stockbridge on May 29, 1948. They just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in early June of this year. Together they had seven children, James (Ruthann) Martin of Las Vegas, Arlene (Wayne) Boelter of Appleton, Pat Bowe of Kaukauna, Karen (James) Bennin of Menasha, Judy (Patrick) Degeneffe of Chilton, John (Amy) Martin of Chilton, and Michael Martin. Harry was an awesome provider, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. All 12 of his grandchildren have fond memories of him, especially creating wood projects in his workshop. Harry's handy work can be seen wherever you go at many of their houses. Grandchildren include: Lisa (Michael) Zitzelsberger of Stockbridge, Gwen (James) Seeboth of Sheboygan, Andy (Jessica) Degeneffe of New London, Nicholas (Tara) Bennin of Sherwood, Brian (Megan) Boelter of Appleton, Shanna (Jeff) Koepke of Plymouth, Craig (Beth) Bennin of Greenville, Holly (Mark) Salenis of Las Vegas, Adam Boelter of Appleton, Jenny Bennin of Menasha, Maggie Martin of Chilton, Abigail Martin of Chilton. The time that Harry spent with his great-grandchildren brought him much joy as well. He was a lifelong member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, formerly St. Mary Parish, where he had volunteered many hours of time. He had also been a volunteer fire fighter for the City of Chilton for many years. Survivors include his wife; 1 sister; 6 children; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister: Alice; and a son: Michael Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton with the Rev. Larry Abler, O.F.M. Cap. Officiating. Entombment will be in the Knollowood Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 and on Wednesday at the church from 9:30 am until 10:30 am. A Parish Vigil Service will be held Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorials given in the name of Harry Martin for The Veterans Memorial of Chilton are greatly appreciated. We cried when you passed away, we still cry today. Although we loved you dearly, we couldn't make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our heart to prove to us, that he only takes the best.
