  When the Civil War broke out, this family gave the Union army five good soldiers, the father being a member of a Wisconsin regiment, Joel belonging to the Twelfth Wisconsin Volunteers, Harrison being a member of a Missouri regiment, and Perry and Nelson participating as privates in Wisconsin organizations, Perry dying in the famous Libby Prison.
