Douglas J. Marquardt, 72, Kimberly, entered life eternal on Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at his home. He was born on June 20, 1935, in Sparta, Wis., son of the late John and Sarah (Hoppmann) Marquardt. He graduated from Sparta High School in 1953, and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1960. On Sept. 3, 1960, he married the former Carolyn Neperud at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, Wis., and she survives. During the Korean Conflict, Doug served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. In 1960, Doug began his career with Burroughs Corporation, first in Kenosha, then Milwaukee. In 1961, he became an accountant with Gaile M. Parent & Assoc. CPA Firm as a Senior Accountant. Later on, Doug was employed for many years by the First National Bank of Beaver Dam as Vice President and Controller. Doug retired in 1994 from Valley Bank (M&I Bank) in Appleton, as an External Reporting Manager. He was also a Charter Member of the Beaver Dam Jaycees, the Beaver Dam Optimist Club and a member of the Beaver Dam Yacht Club, International Rotary Club and was a past treasurer of the Boys Baseball organization in Beaver Dam. For many years Doug was a member of AARP Tax Aid and he loved helping the elderly with their income taxes. He loved power boating and could putz along on Beaver Dam Lake at a slow, relaxing pace. Doug was also a devoted Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers fan. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Marquardt, Kimberly, Wis.; a son, John (Cheryl) Marquardt, Beaverton, Ore., and her children, Nicholas and Christopher Fogg; and a daughter, Janis (Roy) Thornton, Tulsa, Okla., and his son, Dylan. Douglas is also survived by Carolyn's siblings, George Neperud, Joyce and Vernon Rood, Donald and LaVerne Neperud, Robert and Ronelle Neperud, Mary and Donn Anderson and Adelaide Neperud; his uncle, Tony Mangene; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and many cousins. Besides his parents, Douglas was preceded in death by Carolyn's parents, Roy and Mildred Neperud; as well as his sister-in-law, Lois Neperud; brother-in-law, Roy Neperud Jr.; and many aunts and uncles. The Christian Funeral for Doug will be held at 12 Noon on Thursday, March 6, 2008, at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, 419 Jefferson Ave. in Sparta, with the Rev. Joel Zank of Mount Olive Ev. Lutheran Church in Appleton and the Rev. Mark Wessel of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Sparta, officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Ev. Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed to either St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Sparta, Mount Olive Ev. Lutheran Church in Appleton, the Martha Siekman Cancer Center at the Appleton Medical Center or Theda Care At Home Hospice. Our family wishes to thank D. Montgomery Elmer, Dr. Omar Atassi, Dr. Jeffrey Whiteside, Dr. Robert Belgam, Dr. Avi Bar-Lev and Dr. John Swanson Jr., along with their staffs, and Theda Care Hospice program, along with their wonderful nurses and CNA's.
