  O'Connor, Sister Mary Emmanu el Sister Mary Emmanuel O'Connor, 85, of the Sisters of Our Lady of Charit y, returned peacefully to our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 200 2. Sister Emmanuel was born in Bear Creek, Wis., June 14, 1917, the daught er of the late Thomas O'Connor and Elizabeth (Rohan) O'Connor.Prior to entering Our Lady of Charity in 1938, Sister Emmanuel attend ed a business college and worked in an office for three years. Soon aft er her entrance to religious life, she earned her undergraduate degree a nd then pursued a master's degree in Social Work at Loyola University, ear ning it in 1958. Sister immediately set up an in-house social service depa rtment, which she directed from 1958 to 1968, and again from 1974 to 1977.Sister's indefatigable energy, administrative skills, and no doubt, her ge nial Irish wit which endeared her to her Sisters, enabled her, at the sa me time, to hold the position of Superior of Our Lady of Charity in Gre en Bay for 16 years. From 1975 to 1991, Sister also held positions in t he North American Union of the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity-eight yea rs a assistant to the Superior General and later as councilor to the Union .Sister Mary Emmanuel is survived by one sister-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy O'Conn or, and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by one sister, Ellen Neeley, and five brother s, Edwin, John, Francis, Daniel, and Robert.Visitation will be held in the Convent Chapel at 2560 Shawano Ave., on Fri day, Nov. 1, 2002, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Prayer services are at 7 p.m. T he Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 2, 200 2, at 10:30 a.m., preceded by a 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. visitation.The Sisters of Our Lady of Charity would like to thank the staff of Man or Care and of Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care of our de ar sister.Schauer & Schumacher Funeral Home (432-4841) is in charge of funeral arran gements.
