  Martin Eugene "Marty" Schmidt, Appleton, 76, passed away at Appleton Medical Center on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007, and was surrounded by his family. He was born June 16, 1931, to the late William and Esther Schmidt (Boerst). Marty loved to laugh and openly shared his enthusiasm with others. He loved to travel on bus tours, playing Sheepshead, singing, dancing at Polka events, and had a passion for woodworking, which carried through to his profession as a finish carpenter. Marty was also a member of McDowell Male Chorus for many years where he truly cherished the song and comradery with the guys. His love of music was second only to his delightful sense of humor. His artistic flare lives on within us all. He will be sadly missed by his three children, Allen and Diane (Schmidt) Thompson, Boulder, Colo.; Thomas and Linda (Schmidt) Goss, Winneconne; Alan and Rebecca Schmidt, Grand Chute; grandchildren, Madison, Katana, Cooper, Zachery, Ansel, and Annika. He is further survived by two brothers, Harvey Schmidt, Missouri; Charlie Schmidt, Freedom; three sisters, Marion Gaurke (Schmidt), Clintonville; Dorothy Van Kauwenbergh (Schmidt), Green Bay; Ken and Ruth (Schmidt) Hock, New London; nephews, Dennis and Cindy Burkon, New London; David and Barb Kortbein, New London; Luther Kortbein, Green Valley; Russell and Vicki Schmidt, Wabino; Kevin Schmidt, Freedom; nieces, Ronda and David Wentzel, New London; Donna Schmidt, Green Bay; Margaret Kane, Green Bay; Margie Rohloff, Weyauwega; Gloria Gore, Weyauwega; Audrey Cunningham, Janesville; Sharon Schmidt, Delevan; Charlotte Green, Washington State; Marla VanHeuklon, Appleton and Judy Marioque, Green Bay. Funeral services for Marty will be held on Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church (912 North Oneida Street) with Pastor Matthews officiating. Friends may call on Sunday, Aug. 19, 2007, at the Wichmann Funeral Home (537 North Superior Street) from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at church.
