  Schreiter, Ruth A. Ruth L. Schreiter, 90, Appleton, passed away Monday February 12, 2007, at Brewster Village. Ruth was born in Neenah on September 14, 1916, to the late Frank and Minnie (Schreiber) Clancy, the oldest of three girls. She graduated from Neenah High School in 1934. On October 9, 1939, she married Robert F. Schreiter at St Patrick's Church in Menasha. Ruth and Bob were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church for most of their lives. They owned and operated Schreiter's Coach Lamp Inn for 35 years. They celebrated 64 years of marriage together before Bob's death in 2003. Ruth was a very loving and generous wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed more than anything time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all the grand-dogs. She was a wonderful cook. She especially loved making fancy desserts for her Bridge club, the Breezy Eights that met every month for almost 40 years. She loved playing cribbage with Bob and always checked his hand to make sure he wasn't cheating! Her other passion was golf which she played well into her 80's. Ruth loved tapping her feet and getting up to dance to Irish jigs and bluegrass. After Bob's death, her son Paul and son-in-law Patrick would dance with her. She loved her Irish heritage. St. Patrick's Day was always a big celebration with corned beef, cabbage, beer and Irish music. Her family will continue to celebrate that day in memory of her. All those who knew her saw the Irish twinkle in her eye. Ruth lived the last three months at Brewster Village. She enjoyed her days with the staff and her new friend Helen. She called all the people on Lawrence Hall her new family. Her final days were filled with visits from family, friends, and clergy. She expressed her "I love you's" to all, even in her final hours, surrounded by her children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her sisters, Phyllis Knutson and Eleanor Williams; sons-in-law, Steve Murphy and Peter Hoppin; sisters-in-law, Barbara Steger and Marie Laux; and brothers-in-law, Jim, Clem, and Father Dan Schreiter. She will be forever missed by her children, daughters: Sandy (Patrick) McGillian of Neenah and Pat Murphy of Appleton; sons: Jim Schreiter of Mosinee, Paul Schreiter of Appleton; and Bob (Michelle) Schreiter of Franklin; grandchildren: Glenn (April) Hoppin, Dan (Nadine) Hoppin, Paul Hoppin, Gregg (Wendi) Schreiter, Patrick (Keri) Schreiter, Tammy and Jenny Schreiter, Scott Schreiter, Nikki (Dan) Weber, David (Doreen) Falcus, Chris Falcus, Abby and Riley Schreiter; great-grandchildren: Stephanie, Betsy, Seneca, Neceda, Trenton, Kennedy, Jacob, Owen, Ella, Callie, Hayden, Clayton, and Edan; her sister-in-law, Rita DeGroot; her brothers-in-law, Dick (Mary), John (Pat), and Raymond Schreiter; and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2007, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 404 W. Lawrence St., with Fr. Larry Abler officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass at church. A memorial fund is being established. The family would like to thank her close friends and relatives who came to visit often. MaryAnn always brought flowers or some Irish Creme. Rita DeGroot, Dick Schreiter, Carlton Voss, Henri, Carl and Joanie, we love you all. Special thanks to Mary Bliven who helped make Mom's last three years at home possible. "We couldn't have done it without you Mary." Thank you Holly. Mom loved her weekly hair appointment. You always made her look so pretty. Thanks to the neighbors who helped celebrate her 90th birthday, looked out for her welfare, and who shoveled a sidewalk or driveway, raked or mowed or just came over to visit. Thank you to the compassionate, loving staff at Brewster Village, Lawrence Hall for the wonderful care you gave our Mom. We knew she was in good hands.
