  Paul, Gerard P. "Jerry" Jerry Paul, of Appleton, age 77 years, died Thursday, June 22, 2006, with his family by his side. He was born January 30, 1929, in Racine, the son of the late Ewald and Myrtle (Brandl) Paul. On November 24, 1953, he married Helen Hickey in Juneau, Wisconsin. Jerry served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954 during the Korean War on the USS Coral Sea in the Mediterranean. He started his printing trade with his parents at Paul's Printing in Beaver Dam. In 1966, his family moved to Appleton where he followed his profession at Van Rooy's Printing Company for 14 years. After the Printing Company was destroyed by a fire, Jerry served as the maintenance mechanic at Fox Valley Technical College until retiring in 1995. He enjoyed his part-time job bartending at Slim's. Jerry is survived by his wife Helen Paul, Appleton; his five children: Therese (Windsor Tanner) Barry-Tanner, Green Bay; Julie (Dennis) Marten, Hortonville; Jerry (Leslie) Paul, New London; Lisa C. (Ross Puppe) Paul, Shorewood; Tom (Laurie) Paul, Appleton; grandchildren: Colleen, Patrick, Kendra, Jenna, Hailee, Hunter, Catherine and Jamie; his sister, Nancy Bubolz and her three daughters, the Hickey family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law Tom Barry. The memorial service was held on Monday, June 26, 2006, at 6 p.m. at WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME with Deacon Maury Reed officiating. Friends called at the Funeral Home on Monday from 3 p.m. until the time of service. A Memorial Mass was also held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 27 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 950 Washington St., Horicon, with FR. Dave Pleier officiating. Inurnment took place at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Juneau. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Jerry enjoyed a full life, with a special love of the outdoors. When the kids were growing up, summers were spent tent camping, mostly in northern Wisconsin. He was a great cook, and especially enjoyed cooking over the open campfire. After the kids were grown up and on their own, Jerry and Helen continued to camp, upgrading to more permanent trailers. They spent many years at Island Lake, near Gresham, and for the past 10 years at Rustic Woods in Waupaca County. Jerry was an avid outdoorsman his entire life, including fishing, duck hunting, and deer hunting. In his later years he took up turkey hunting, thrilled by the sound of early morning gobbles. Sports were also a passion. He was an excellent baseball player, and followed the Brewers, and Bob Uecker, rarely missing a game. He spent many years in bowling leagues, with an awesome left hook. He thoroughly enjoyed the game of golf, both playing and watching on T.V. Jerry was never much for sitting around, always active doing something. He set the example for his children with an incredible work ethic, and dedication to family. Jerry and Helen had many great times over the years with the "Appleton gang," up north friends, relation and family. Jerry was most of all a devoted husband to Helen the love of his life "His Irish and his Bride for over 50 years of marriage." His loving memory will live on.
