  Reinke, James R. "Jim" James R. "Jim" Reinke, 73, Luxemburg (formerly of Green Bay), passed away peacefully Friday evening July 17, 2009. Jim was born in Appleton on September 22, 1935, to the late Lester and Irene (Griepp) Reinke. He graduated from Appleton West High School in 1953. While at Appleton, Jim earned varsity letters in football, basketball and track. He was voted MVP in football and set numerous school and state records in track. Jim went on to the University of Wisconsin-Madison on a football scholarship, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi. As a proud Badger he lettered in both track and football. Jim was a starting defensive and offensive end, and received the David N. Schreiner Memorial Award for leadership in athletics and academics. After graduating in 1956 with a B.S., Math Education, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After his years in service, he remained a dedicated supporter of the veterans. He later obtained a Masters of Education from Northern Michigan University. Many in Green Bay know "Coach" from his over 30 years as a math teacher and head football coach at Green Bay Southwest High School. During his teaching career he co-authored a series of math text books. In 1975, he was unanimously voted the Fox River Valley Conference "Coach of the Year." His final years of education service were as Vice Principal at Green Bay Preble. Through his dedication, guidance, wisdom and inspiration, Jim touched the lives of countless students and athletes. On August 4, 1962, Jim and Carol Herlik were married in Green Bay. They spent their summers with family and entertained friends at the cottage in Door County. After his retirement he and Carol built their home on the Bay and tended to their beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. Jim spent many hours fishing, sailing, traveling to Badgers games, and woodworking. He especially enjoyed time playing cribbage and making bonfires with his grandchildren. The people who knew Jimmy best will miss his compassion, work-ethic, humor and enthusiasm for life. Survivors include his wife, Carol; their children: Greg (Stacey) Reinke, Terry (Bucky) Loch, and Karen (Steve) Backes; and their grandchildren: Nick, Amelia and Hans Backes and Jackson and Briggs Reinke. Jim is also survived by his sister, Marion (John) Scheer; brothers: Marvin (Sue) Reinke and Lester Reinke; sister-in-law, Joanne (Gary) Moder and brother-in-law, Gerald Herlik. Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., on Friday, July 24, from 4 to 8 p.m. The parish vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dyckesville on Saturday, July 25, from 10 to 11 a.m. Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. with Rev. Richard Mauthe officiating. The burial of the urn will be in the church cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the Reinke family at www.prokowall.com.
