LaFave, Shirley Ann (Germain) A life so rare and beautiful can never be forgotten. Shirley Ann (Germain) LaFave entered into eternal glory, with her loving Savior and LORD Jesus Christ, on Friday, October 9, 2009, after a very courageous 7½-year battle with cancer. Shirley was born on March 23, 1933, in Bay Settlement, WI, daughter of the late Adolph & Mabel (Dappern) Germain. Shirley was united in marriage to William Gerare LaFave, on May 9, 1953, in Green Bay, WI. Her ten surviving children are: Gary (Karla) LaFave, Whitelaw, WI; Lori (J. Daniel) Nichols, Appleton, WI; Ronald (Amy) LaFave, Green Bay, WI; Richard (Brenda) LaFave, Lake Havasu, AZ; Mary Jo (Daniel) Wanty, Waupaca, WI; Michael LaFave (Cindy Jelskey), Horseshoe Bay, TX; Daniel LaFave, Granite Bay, CA; Diane "DeDe" (Dr. David) Gibbs, Stevens Point, WI; Ann (Steven) Henning, Appleton, WI; and Robert (Jackie) LaFave, Neenah, WI. She is also survived by 32 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; a sister Betty (Ron) Higgins, Cape Coral, FL, and sister Diane (Robert) Walczak, Port Charlotte, FL. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, and her father- and mother-in-law, Wm. J. and Florence, Her sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Roger Wesely, a brother-in-law Marold "Bud" Verboncouer, two sisters-in-law: Shirley Mae VanHout and Mabel Tittyung, and an aunt, Joann Beauchamp, who lived with Shirley and Bill for several years. All of these family members are dearly loved and missed. Shirley's vitality in the midst of pain amazed us all! She continued to enjoy her bridge club, bowling, and Red Hat Ladies events, church retreats/functions and family gatherings. Shirley came to know God's amazing love and grace through this battle with cancer. God was mighty and glorified throughout her life as He perfected her faith in Him. She has left us all a legacy of rich and lasting love. She and her family are forever grateful for all of the prayers, support and gestures of loving-kindness they've received. We'd also like to thank the staff at St. Mary's Hospital, Green Bay Oncology, and Oasis of Hope Hospital, Tiajuana, Mexico. Shirley touched lives wherever she went, and she has blessed and encouraged many with her poetry. When considering treatment options, God placed the following poem in her heart. May it bless others in their suffering: RECAPTURE MY PEACE Recapture My peace, My gift to you It does not matter what you do Let all confusion and worry cease I pour out My grace to give you peace Place all your cares at My feet Together, all cancer, we can defeat Just always remember, I am there with you Depend on Me, I will see this through And when together My glories we share Remember, it was "I AM" who got you there TO GOD IS THE GLORY! HIS HEALING IS ETERNAL! Friends may call at First Assembly of God Church, 1460 Shawano Ave., Green Bay, on Friday, October 16, 2009, from 8 a.m. until the time of services. Funeral services 10 a.m. Friday at the church with Rev. Ron Ross officiating. Entombment will be 2 p.m. Friday at Allouez Chapel Mausoleum, 2121 Riverside Drive, Green Bay.
