  President of Lawrence University
  Elias DeWitt Huntley (1840-1909) was president from 1879-1883. He had served as presiding elder of the Madison district of the Wisconsin Conference prior to coming to Lawrence. He succeeded in improving the college's financial situation, but he was generally disliked by the students as a strict disciplinarian. After leaving Lawrence, Huntley continued working as a pastor. His ministry included a stint as Chaplain of the U.S. Senate from 1883 to 1886.

  Biography	The son of Frances Tooker and Elias Sanford Huntley. Brother of Rachel Huntley. He graduated from Genesee College in 1866. The 1880 census listed him in Appleton, Outagamie, Wisconsin. He was the fourth president of Lawrence University from 1879 to 1883. Served the Metropolitan Methodist Episcopal Church of Washington D.C. where President McKinley was a member. Served as the chaplain of the United States Senate (1883-1886). Received honorary degrees from East Tennessee Wesleyan University, Grant Memorial University, and the University of Iowa.
