  Gerrit Janssen, a substant ial citizen and good, practical agriculturist in Vandenbroek township, w ho is successfully operating a well-cultivated farm on Little Chute Rur al Route No. 9, is a native of Holland, where he wasborn December 4, 1850. He is a son of Jacob Janssen, who came to the Unit ed States in 1853 with his wife, Christina, (Maasen) Janssen, and eleven c hildren, namely: Jacob, Edward, Christina, Allen (This is Petronella, Nel la is spelled backwards), John, Henry, George, William, Albert, Mary and G errit. The family settled first in Little Chute, Mr. Janssen renting la nd for about six years and then purchasing it,this property becoming the family homestead, and here Jacob Janssen died F ebruary 13, 1871, when seventy-one years of age. Mrs. Janssen survived unt il June 17 1898, and also passed away on the old home place. In 1892 the o riginal family home, a log structure, was torn down and a new, modern hou se erected by Gerrit Janssen, who has greatly improved the property. He re ceived his education in thepublic schools of Little Chute, and at the age of twenty-two years took ch arge of the farm which he is now operating. In October, 1876,he was married to Annie Haremson, who was born in Vandenbroek township, da ughter of George Haremson, who came to the United States a few years lat er than the Janssen family. Tweelve children have been born to Mr. and Mr s. Janssen, namely: George, Annie, Christina,Elizabeth, Jane, Edward, John, Jacob, Peter, Henry, Sophia, and Agnes. M r. and Mrs. Janssen belong to St. John's Catholic Church of LittleChute. Both are well known and highly esteemed in their community, Mr. Jan ssen being numbered among the substantial men of his township. His fa rm is highly productive and presents a neat and pleasing appearance, bei ng well fenced and equipped with adequate buildings of a substantial character.
