  Richard J. Ferron "Dick" passed away peacefully at age 90, on November 4, 2015 in Scottsdale, AZ. Dick was born in Appleton, Wis. to the late William J. and Mary Salmon Ferron and was the second of four sons (William, Robert, James). He attended St. Mary's Catholic Grade School (Appleton) and St. Mary's Menasha High School. While growing up, he was active in the Boy Scouts and his schools' band programs. After high school, Dick enlisted in the Navy's V5 pilot officer training program, and over the next two years spent time in various locations including Newberry, SC, Colgate University, NY, Chapel Hill, NC, Glenview, IL, and Pensacola, FL. WWII ended before his training was completed and he earned an honorable discharge. He returned home to Appleton, where he learned the clothing business from his father, and eventually became a partner in Ferron's Clothing, an up-scale men's clothing store, with his father and brothers Robert and James. In 1950, Dick married the love and "joy of his life", Joan Wagner, at Appleton's Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Their relationship was admired by many, and they enjoyed 46 years and 6 children together until she passed away in 1996. The family relocated to the Phoenix, AZ area in 1979, and for a number of years, Dick was self-employed as a handy man and home remodeler. Upon retirement, he generously gave of his time to Habitat for Humanity, his favorite cause. His leadership and management skills are recognized by many who worked with him on the Habitat projects. Over the years, Dick also became active with other Navy veterans in the Roadrunner Squadron of the Association of Naval Aviation and frequently organized meetings and lunches for the local group. Additionally, he was a proud contributor to the Veteran's Heritage Project. His love of the outdoors and camping, travel, and his appreciation and enjoyment of music were just some of the many interests he passed on to his children. A dedicated Green Bay Packer fan and season ticket holder, Dick was one of the actual attendees at the famous "Ice Bowl" game between the Packers and Cowboys in 1967. Later in life, it was a Sunday tradition to gather at his home to watch and cheer on "the Pack". Ever ready with a smile and quick wit, he made numerous friends wherever he went, and felt it was important to keep in touch with them. He rarely gave advice without being asked, but when he did give it, it was practical and insightful. Supportive, patient, and kind, he was a father many wished they had. Throughout his life, Dick remained an active and faithful Catholic. Up until his death, Dick maintained a positive outlook and expressed appreciation for all the gifts life presented and God gave him. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Dick is survived by his 2 sons, Michael (Dolores) Ferron and John (Adriana Souza) Ferron, his 4 daughters, Mary (Forrest Gorter) Ferron, Pat (Tim) Stuyvenberg, Ann (Kevin) Chadwick, and Kathy (Rob Jahnke) Ferron. He is further survived by grandchildren Jonathan Gorter, Erin (Chad Hines) Gorter-Hines,PhD, Katie Stuyvenberg, Paul Chadwick, Mark Chadwick, Matt (Allison Springer) Jahnke, Steven Jahnke, Kayla Ferron and Emily Ferron. He is also survived by his brothers Robert and James, as well as many nieces, nephews, and their children. Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, and his brother, William. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 7655 E Main St, Scottsdale, AZ on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 10:30 am.
